Is the VZ58 worth it or not?

I have the non-restricted 7.62x39 VZ 58

Originally, I had a problem in that it would not fire eastern-block ammunition reliably. North American civillian ammo was fine, but anything russian or czech would occasionally fail to fire.

I replaced the original 3-fin firing pin with a new 4-fin version I bought from Dlask, and it has been utterly reliable since then. Turns out the 4-fin version of the firing pin is just a little bit longer.

Cheers

The only issues now are when people put tacticool crap on it... Buy it, shoot it... Will run fine... I didn't file my BC tactical handguard set enough and bent my gas port.... 40 dollar fix at a smith but its all cause by us...

Here is a little persuasion for them.

Looks almost identical to mine, except my sight hood hasn't been "opened" and I run the Polish special forces brake from Corwin.

Come to think of it, how is the front sight now that it's opened up and where did you get that done?

Go for it. I have a number of them in both calibers and love them. My .223 has been very good, but did get sent back for warranty right after I got it but have never had an issue since.

According to well informed source:

CSA had approached other czech vz 58 factory to teach them proper differential heat treatment of the receiver but were shown the middle finger. One can copy drawings but there are secrets to all designed

internet rumors! Sweet!

That being said, my 11.5" CSA with a AK slant brake style muzzle device is a riot to shoot. Makes a very impressive fireball too.

My first one was a lemon, the rifle they replaced it with has been great.

These days you take your chances no matter what you buy. 10-22 guns are way rougher now then years passed, 870 shotguns often need tweaks out of the box, high end AR15 rifles aren't immune to issues, it's a mechanical device. Things can and will fail.

However... I plan to buy two more CSA VZ58 rifles in 7.62x39.

I'm sure there are trade secrets with heat treating, heat treating is often an art form as much as a science. Look at knives, swords, axes, etc. There is a methodology to it. CSA will get it right and from my experience they want to treat their customers right.

There are guns at double this price point that come with one year warranty and that's it. 5 years on the CSA seems reasonable, lifetime would be better sure... The warranty center is fantastic and the guy running the place knows guns inside and out. I've had the pleasure of talking with him several times. I trust he will get any warranty claim sorted of the rifle replaced.

I think it's worth it, even though I don't have a CSA VZ58. I've read about problems, but also the fact that CSA stands behind them and pays for shipping when warranty service is needed.

I'm waiting for the CZ958's to come out though. I have high hopes for these...

I LOVE my VZ58 in .223, I as you posted wanting opinions before I bought, trying to decide between a VX or Type97. Glad I bought mine. I may still buy a T97 with a FTU, but I have been very happy with my VZ. Will love it even more once I decide on an optic set up and add it as my 41 year old eyes are the weak link in my shooting with it. I will add a CZ958 when it comes out as my 7.62 option. Do yourself a favor and buy one

I have the VZ58 in 7.62 x 39. It works perfect and accurate. Not much kick and looks bad a$$. It's my favorite rifle to shoot and I have all kinds of rifles. It's even better than a SKS.

came like that, lol... WAY better tho ! (from what I remember closed hood sks)

I recently bought a CSA VZ.58 from Frontier. Aside from stiff mags not wanting to let go of some of the rounds for the first 100 or so i haven''t had any issues. The last 200 rounds I've put through the rifle have run flawlessly.
