Just picked this one up PP Super rebarreled in 9x18 Makarov..
What did it cost? I have a PP Super & this conversion really interests me.
I have a PP in .32 auto, prohib. Internals look very good but slide shows a lot of holster wear, especially on the side with the markings. I got info on it from the Walther forum (year & factory of manufacture). I plan to work on it this winter to improve FTF & FTE issues I had with it umpteen years ago (been a safe Queen for far too long). It was supposedly a German civilian police decommissioned unit. It was packed up the wazzu with grease when I got it about 30+ years ago. Haven't even put a whole box of ammo through it since I've had it. Neat little pistol though.
No, the Walther PP isn't being made by Walther anymore. Walther is too busy making the S&W MP22.
S&W are making PPK and PPK/S models, and have started building PPK in .22 as well. Their early efforts were awful and subject to recall, etc. More recent guns are apparently better, but still prohibited here. Unlike the 4.2 inch barrels on 4 inch revolvers, there appears to be little interest at S&W in servicing the Canadian market. They are likely selling far too well South of the border.
Walther and S&W have apparently parted ways recently, with Walther starting a US firm Walther Arms Inc., to distribute German-made product. I have heard that Carl Walther GMBH is more approachable of late, and some larger dealers have been talking to them about small custom runs, apparently with some favorable preliminary response. Time will tell!
Regardless, the PP hasn't been made since the late 80s. They are an excellent pistol, especially in .22, and are importable into the USA, where there are tons for sale at Simpson and other big Walther dealers.

So, I guess that (obviously) means that the Walther P5 is a prohib as well - unless its been "pinocchio'ed" .
I watch the exchange like a hawk in an attempt to get my hands on some of these, but I never see them -

It may just be me but for the cost of a Walther PP and then to re barrel it properly I think I'd just go buy one of the new Baikal Restricted class Makarovs.
Makarov! Ugh. I have one more to sell, once I put that one back together. If you hold a Walther and a Makarov, you can sure tell which one is made by Germans.
There were something like 80 Restricted P5 barrels made by Walther. I missed one in Germany (700 Euros) last year. It's a shame, since the P5 prohib is an awesome pistol. A bit noisy, but surprisingly accurate with that short barrel.
The Walther PP in 30 Reid would be really cool if anyone commercially reloaded that caliber. Someone should suggest that to whoever runs Ellwood Epps. They would be much busier in the gunsmithing department. I would buy a bunch of those conversions.

There were two types of conversion, one was the barrel only and the other was a complete top end of barrel and slide. There is one P5 conversion barrel available from Carl Walther USA/ Earls Repair for a cost of $6,000. Nope, no extra zeros there.
Unfortunately the barrel is quite complex and to "pinocchio" a P5 is not very easy as the barrel is not a simple tube like a PP/PPK.

It was originally an anti-HK campaign poster from UK that I took and modified to pro-HK. Since they are anti HK and ripped off the HK logo without consent, I had no moral dilemma about taking and modifying their graphic.
