Is the White tail Rut on Near you

Over estimated distance on a nice 4x4 this afternoon and put one over its shoulder.

Took a real long poke at a wolf a little bit before that,, it jumped in the air and hunched up like it was hit,, didnt find any sign of blood or hair. Hope I hit the bastage!

I was up near Whitecourt all last week and came home yesterday. It was the tail end of the rut, and to compound things even worse, a large pack of wolves moved into the area. There is still lots of good shooting left, the bucks are still up for a ride, even if the females are not. In this area, there is a much bigger rut in the middle of December. When I first started hunting with my Father, a whitetail tag was good until the week before Christmas. We often shot deer in December in Northern Alberta.

Had a short cold snap here in south sask. But still not much activity from the big boys yet. Smaller bucks chasin does hard, some big mulies staying up longer but havent seen much for bruiser whitetails. Next weekend will be a total different story I'm sure...

Just west of Ottawa (Perth) Ontario - we saw 2 smaller bucks chasing does November 8th, shot a small buck running a doe with his nose to the ground on the 9th, saw 3 larger bucks November 20th and dogged out a small buck bedded with a doe on the 20th.

We shot 3 does on the 19th and 20th, all were starting to smell like they do when their ready to bred.

IMHO, with the cold weather snap hitting this week and a storm front moving in, right now is the time to hunt as I believe things are just ready to go full tilt.

Sadly, I've burned up most of my "credits" at home and work for a week or so.

On the weekend the smaller ones are moving a bit and responding to calls, actually had one come to 10 yards with bleats, turn and run into bush, then come back to some more doe bleats.

Some fresh scrapes and rubs also noted.

Nothing big during the day yet. This weekend hopefully they will be literally balls out.

This is one of the gentleman at night, caught on my backup camera. Also have some night videos of him.Hopefully he shows himself during the day.(ignore time stamp)

There is one bigger that I got photos from last year after the season. No sign of him yet this year.

Just came back from Manitoba and the rut was on last week.
Seen bucks sniffing the ground like hound dogs, and the bucks we shot had swollen necks, so the rut (was, is) on.... the tail end as I post this.

The second week of november is usually pretty hot.:yingyang:
