Ive wanted one of the XS setups for my 1895gs since i got it in 2011. Only ever shot the gun with its semi buckhorn and its been good so far now. My new supernova has a ghost ring and i love it and think it might be good on the 45-70 but not sure if it would be a significant improvement over the semi buckhorn or only added functionality? Local outdoor shop here has the XS rail with ghost ring for $260+tax. Any thoughts on if it's worth putting on or not?

I have an SBL and after toying around with a few different optics I took the rail off and reinstalled the peep. So now it’s just the XS front blade and rear peep; I’m much happier now! The rail was a pain to told on to the rifle if walking with it in one hand and since I decided to shoot irons exclusively I didn’t need it anymore.

If you have a weaver base, could drill and tap and install a peep in it and try using it. If you do not have a peep could try making one out of a sling stud and drill hole to desired size

Might just order a skinner guide gun set. Looks more like what i want. Not interested in a scope. 85usd + shipping for the skinner, better price than the XS system. Would i need to remove the rear buckhorn to see the front post?

if you look at scope base on the skinner sight. they have a design that peep is drilled in the scope base. If you have a scope base ( as weaver ) a peep can be installed in it.
