is there a 'best' Glock?

for those saying gen 4 you are insane lol. i have a collection of glocks, and every gen 4 ive changed the recoil spring because its not as reliable as the gen 3s.Yes they recalled some but there are a few that still failed anyways, this did not happen with gen 3s, unless your james yeager and you do 1000 round test and it burns out, in that case buy a stainless recoil spring from lone wolf. Best glock is the 18c select fire , then 17c, 19,23,and 21 is so much fun and makes large holes, so does a 20 but ammo is expensive. And yes you can still c after firing a c model at night, its not much different then the fireball created from the front end of the barrel. The sub compacts are good in a small persons hand, if i had to trust my life in canada with a 10 round mag limit, it would probably be the 21 as its cheaper then 10 mm ammo and training with it would be much less. In the US i would say the 17c with 32 round glock extended mag or 18c if you got your batf permits for full auto. 19 or 34 will also run a 32 round glock 18c mag.

I've got almost 5k through mine. Never replaced anything. Shoots great!

I put a few hundred rounds through a g17 gen3 and gen 4 in an hour to make my decision before I bought one. I much prefer the gen 3. I dont need the extra grips as my hand fits gen 3 grip nicely. I also find the gen 4 to be heavier and not as balanced as the gen 3. gen 3 felt like it ran smoother as well.

Theres a reason the gen 3 was their longest running generation, "if it aint broke, dont fix it.". The gen 4 was only introduced to stay competitive in the customization of "user friendly" modifications such as grip size, switching mag release and an attempt to make a recoil spring that would better accommodate the .40s recoil.

Glock 19/17 3rd Gen
Glock 21 3rd Gen, night sights, M3X light, 13+1, UnderWood +P 230's @ 1,000 fps.....damn
Glock 30/30SF/30S in IWB concealed holster

Glock 34s are nice but too long for inside vehicle movements, the steering wheel gets in the way sometimes, however glock sells a 3 pound disconnector that fits the 17 to improve the trigger and still remain all glock. The 18c select fire is like the elder wand in harry potter movies, 17c comes close if you got a good trigger finger. ps the 21 has a fat grip, not for small hands, however they so sell a sf model. For conceal carry the 23 is like a 19 on roids. The 23 is a bad ass gun, i love them all though :)

Old news that is no longer valid. Gen 4s are fine now and plenty of LE and Mil contracts to prove that.

I prefer the gen 3 as there was nothing wrong with it to warrant the redesign for the gen 4, but both the gen 3 and 4 weigh exactly the same.

Gen 4 feels front heavy. Even when I pick both up side by side i can notice a difference. Maybe I'm just finally losing my mind :runaway:

Well,I had shoot a lot of 9 mm with g17 gen 3 when I am teaching in the range, therefore I never thinking to buy one. The choice I make for my first flock was g20c 10mm g3 ,since l shoot reload , I can decide the power factor and the gun chew everything that I put in ,never failed.I had brought someother glocks later since recently the distributor kicking out all gen 3 models, if I am only allowed to keep 1 gun ,It won't be 1911 or shadow but my g22c gen3 because of the lighter weight and the caliber is between .45 and 9 mm.

G19 9mm. One of the most size efficient pistols ever made. 15 rounds vs. 13 for similar sized competitors.

The best Glock is the one which you are most comfortable with. I have more than 10 in various models/calibers and I enjoy every one of them. Having said that, I know others will strongly disagree, but the only ones I do not care for are the Gen4s. They are preferred by some but I dont like the fit/features as I don't consider them necessary for my use. I started with the basic in 1990 and learned the mechanics with practice. My preferred models are of the Gen2 or Gen3 variety but I am not model specific. While they may have evolved over the years I am happily set in my ways with the ones I have. Get the one which suits you best.

If you want to reload your brass, your best bet is something else - once my brass started showing "Glocked" - I gave that up and went back to FNP and Steyr and Ruger 345 and Ruger 1911 and Sig 220 and Sig 1911 and Taurus and something else - IWI? - and no problems anymore. If you want a Glock sorta gun in 40 - my Steyr does all things well - the rest of them are 40s.
