Kind of thinking of a shtf option for a BB gun.
I'm wondering if anyone makes a higher powered .177 BB rifle that is not dependent on CO2.
Something I could hypothetically kill racoons or rabbits with. (Yes, I know there are lots of pellet options out there)

A BB doesn't have much mass to make it a 'killer' for more than small birds. If you take a Crosman 362 Variable-pump it will shoot BBs and .177 pellets-which might have the power to 'do it'. That rifle can be 'modded' to go over 500fps IF you have a PAL, but over 20-ft prob NOT a killer. You need to be 'ethical' in your hobby. But you could use a Nitro-break barrel with a BB as long as: A) you don't let it run out of the barrel and B) don't care that BBs will tear up the rifling.
PS - in a city/town you can't use a BB gun OR a pelet gun. Even for 'pests' like rats, pigeons (yum), raccoons.

SHTF non-C02 BB/pellet gun for raccoons and rabbits??
The Crosman Legacy 1000 might have enough power for birds and chipmunks.....

I'd never go BB, pellet all the way. Nitro piston 1000fps 0.177 or even 0.22. There's a site that sells PAL airguns, but it's cheaper to just get a cooey.

.177 steel BBs are only 5.1 grains. Even doing 1000 FPS, you're still only looking at like 11 ft-lbs of muzzle energy.

If you're having trouble finding what you're looking for, and it seems like nobody is doing it, there's a decent chance that there's a reason for that...

And they don't got much range.

Crosman 2100 fires pellet and BBs at 700 fps plus.

Had a Crossman pump when I was a Kid would not kill Rabbits .
Tried when I was a Kid shot them they just jumped had to then shoot it with my Dads cooey
We found the BB just under the skin behind the front shoulder Move up to Pellet gun if your after small game

When I was much younger I had a 22cal crossman pellet rifle. It wasn't a reliable killer of crows, let alone anything raccoon sized.

Tried shooting the marmots living under the shop at my friends place, didn't do jack #### to them either.

When you put it like that it makes sense.

I live in the country and deal with pests regularly. 1 small reason for BB is I don't want lead in my chicken run (where I shoot the majority of racoons)
I think I can find non toxic rounds for a pellet gun but BB is easier to find.

If yougo pellets, I'd suggest .22 instead of 177. I had a 177 Vantage Nitro and it lost power at 20-yds even tho it was "1200-fps" per Crosman. And 'non-lead' will weigh even less in either cal.

They make lead free pellets and not that uncommon to find.
