Is there a hunting legal .50 or close to it?

The .275 cal max restriction for SW Ontario is not for deer. Most of the areas that have this restriction do not have a rifle season for deer. Bow, controlled shotgun and muzzleloader but no rifle.

kef, what range will allow you to shoot .50BMG in Ontario? CFB Borden and Petawawa are the only two that I know of. If your plan is paper punching/practice and hunting rethink your caliber.

I know it's an extreme caliber and an extreme price but I'm a bit of an extreme guy. I think it would be truly unique to own and use. I'm an hour south of the military ranges in Ottawa for paper fun. We have open areas for hunting that can have 1000 yards plus of flat distance. I think it would truly be fun.

Good to know, I guess its who you are. When my tac unit was there training I could have sworn I saw Barrets being used by JTF.

kef.....Go for it.... 50s are a lot of fun. I don't think there is anything wrong with the Steyr.....Jasonsmack on this board shoots one.....a PM to him may get you some more specifics.....
Reloading componants are a bit of a bear right now....but can be found....PM me if I can be of any help.

um when i did BCAM with the cadets they said the army cadet rifle team was shooting something like that

and this was at connaught ranges

How far do you want to go back? Cadets used #4 then went to Sportco's, now to RPA's. Cadets have never fired .50 cals at Connaught. Who ever told you the cadets shot .50 is a :jerkit:

There has been plenty of hunter here on CGN take deer with the 50 bmg and had clean kills. With proper shot placement you're not going to loose anymore meat then with a 300 mag. Ive seen .243's make a hell of a mess with guys who take extremly poor shot angles.
If you can handle the weight of carrying that beast around in the field all day it would make for some really cool hunting.

Cheers!!

the biggest i have ever seen at cannought was the 338. and i will put dollars to donuts that the shooter was of the dwyer hill variety. and i have spent alot of time touring around cannought.
also if your hunting with a .50 please make sure your backstop is safe. 1,000yrds flat isjust the begining of a .50's flight;)
