Getting into another build and am crunching numbers. I want to know if it would be better (
Read cheaper) to use one of my rifles as an action donor or to sell the rifle and use the cash fo the build.

THe deciding factor would be if I can sell tHe barrel and stock off of the donor. Is ther much of a market for a factory savage walnut stock from a model 116 and a stainless barrel from the rifle with less than a 100 rounds through it.

If folks are buying those things what are they usually going for ?

Depending on caliber they do sell. Check out the EE forum for parts to get an idea of pricing. I've bought take off savage barrels for $75 un fired but i've seen them listed as high as $150. Whether they sold at that price I'm not sure

Wooden stocks find some takers with guys upgrading from Tupperware. Reasonably priced take off barrels will sell. There's a it of a cult savage market since they can be user installed. Lots of guys have there own lathes and aren't risking much trying a used barrel, and there is a bit of a market for guys just trying to get a damaged gun back into action for minimal cost. The few barrels I sold went in a few minutes, which makes me think I could have asked a bit more.
