Is there a new RC K98k import?

First of all, it's not collectors that are buying these recent RC K98's. Collectors get details before they buy.
Ungraded for $700 and condition will range from fair to excellent? Such desire to own without regard as to quality of condition!
Why do I get the feeling these recent imports will get restored for the most part by their new owners? I hope you don't expect to get your money back on the EE when you find out the bore is poor and pitting everywhere.
Now that the market will be flooded with below average K98's I'm hoping to find a nice non RC example some day worthy of a collection.
You have just driven the price of junk to the same as VG.
Interesting times for sure. There, I've said it. I wish the recent buyers Good Luck with Russian Roulette.
 
I remember a few years back before I got my PAL, when I was lurking on here, RC K98s were selling for 400 bucks. :(

Looks like I'll just have to wait for the gunshow in April to get my hands on some sort of K98k.

Me ,I don't know when we will see again RC k98 ( it's the last time? ) so I bought one :)
And I think that this import will set the price for all the RC K98 in Canada , nobody, who knows the current price, will sell is RC k98 for less than that.
Don't forget that this rifle ( beaten or not) still have good story to tell :)

I agree that any of these rifles have a story to tell... But the quality just isn't there to justify an outragous price, ($700+ is rediculous)!!! I can just see the EE ads now, "Collectable RC K98 $800+" As usual some sucker will buy it! For me I'm just learning the collector side of things but I know enough NOT to buy one of these. Where I don't know, I read, where I don't read I use instinct and my instinct here just just said "DON'T DO IT"!

Today I went to to my local Gun Shop and looked over every one of the RC's they had. I showed up with my hopes up and left with them crushed. I just couldn't bring myself to do it!
Just over $700 for a bottom of the barrel piece of crap, when last week I bought a BEAUTIFUL all matching 1943 BYF K98 for $800... Doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure this out!

On the RC's not one serial number matched right down to stock bands, the stocks were a horrible laquer and beat-up. Trigger gaurds and Mag floor plates were incorrect for the years and the bores were ok at best (sharp but dark)... The ONLY part of that rifle that I thought interesting was the little 'X'. For me it's just NOT a collecter-grade but shooter grade. So if you want a shooter grade get a nice shooter grade Mauser. A beautiful Swede for 300-500, Romanian, Yugo, Isreali, Portugese, Spanish or South American Mauser and you'll not only spend less money but have a nice shooter and something that looks nice in your gunrack. IMHO, a collectable is something that you want to display on the wall AND has historical significance... THESE RIFLES ARE NOT IT!!!!

But hey, it's your money!
 
Before the echo of your "NOT WORTH IT" dies, they will be sold out. Try finding any other k98 for less from now on. Like it or not a new benchmark has been established.
 
If you appreciate history, how could you not appreciate these rifles? Granted, the price is not attractive, but over my years I have lost out on alot of firearms that I thought were too pricey for the time. And now they are gone. For example, in the early 1990's a surplus store in Calgary (Crown) was selling WW2 non capture k98 rifles, $100 a piece. I bought one, thinking these were too expensive for what they were, and there seemed to be a plenty. I should have bought all 50 they had.
I'm a collector, and I can appreciate these for their historical significance. $700 is a fair bit of money. My only criticism is the descriptions need to be more thorough.

I dont agree. An nice RC can fetch $600ish on the EE now, and taxes and shipping should not be recouped so after all is said and done, and people find out the condition, I think it will even out at the old price, which was still too much. I sold a nice bnz43 Rc a few months ago for $650 but I paid for the shipping, which turned out to be $70, buyer wanted it quick, so i obliged. I think that is around a fair price, but this one was as nice an RC as they come.
 
The market is determining worth. Since they are disappearing fast, they obviously match a lot of people's needs. I don't collect pristine examples of any rifle. I like the mixmasters - they have more history than many of the museum pieces. I intend to shoot them and don't want to worry about damaging a perfect specimen. And as many have pointed out, the days of finding a barrel of $100 milsurps in your local store are gone. Even the mixmasters have shot up in price - my $300 Danish Garand, my $275 refurbed M1 Carbine with Khmer markings, my $100 Australian No.1 Mk III that came with bayonet. Aside from the recent Russian firearms, it's not a cheap hobby any more.
 
All I see is a $500-$600 RC K98 rifle + [TAXES + DEALER MARK UP (PROFITS) + IMPORT FEES + MIDDLE MAN FEES + SHIPPING].

Take away everything else and you still have a $500-$600 RC K98.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Sad.... But probably true. However IMHO, still not worth it! ;)

On the positive side, in the same line of thinking my all matching minty k98's are now worth double their value now!
 
In response to all the unknown information of these RC K98 that FF was selling. I called them to obtain further information as to the condition of them.
Bores clean and not pitted.
Some of the cheaper ones... are priced cheaper due to the stock being chipped while in the crate. All markings are visible some more than others. To verify this info I suggest calling the store.

As for the price, expensive yes, bit risky buying due to alot of unknowns. But who doesn't like a bit of gambling.
 
i called alflatherys and inquired about the rifles and ended up buying one,wont know condt ontil it arrives but he assures me its a nice on.They sell theirs for 625 so a little less then FF and SFRC ,so just have to wait and see .
 
From the ones I checked (5 or 6), they all had nice bores on them. I would rate most of the ones I saw as "good" condition or better. There weren't any "sewer pipes" as many people like to refer to them as.

I like the "we will take them out of the crate so everyone gets a fair chance". Which translates to "we will send you whatever comes out of the crate so we don't get stuck with it"

I would really like to see them listed with info regarding the manufacturer's codes. Obviously this doesn't matter to a lot of people but for some of us it would make a big difference.
