Is there an advantage to SA only, in production

The CZ 75 Shadow is higly regarded for IPSC, etc., but there is a single action only model; the CZ 75 Shadow T-SA.

Would that offer an advantage in IPSC, not having to start in DA mode for production? Is the SA only model in wide spread use?

as the above post mentions....First shot attempted must be DA in Production division, unless your COF requires the shooter to load after the start signal. (ie: gun is unloaded prior to the start-you don't have to decock the pistol to DA in this case)

Of course my bad. Refreshing on the rules and going back and forth on the pros/cons between Production and Standard have me mixed up.

I've never even heard of the load after start signal option. Great knowledge here.

It's quite common in IPSC Ontario matches. I think the govmint has course designers convinced that having a loaded pistol in your holster is dangerous.

We seem to have a lot of stages where we start with an unloaded gun on a table, on a barrel, in a box/briefcase, with your mags in a bucket, etc, you know, whatever is practical. ;)

Not true! A glock doesn't fire the first shot DA. The difference is for a DA the first shot must have a trigger pull of 8lbs and each subsequent trigger pull must not be less than 2lbs. For an SA, like a Glock, the trigger pull must be 5 lbs.

You are wrong; DA is not 8lbs required. Not arguing the Striker fired system of the glock...but it is considered DA in IPSC.

M&P is striker fired as well. The advantage of the striker fired pistol is you have the same trigger pull from the first shot to the last. I have never been a big fan of DA/SA. Don't mind DA or SA alone but together no, but what do I know I shoot a revolver:)

how do you hammer down with striker

To further our striker fired and M&P discussion, on "hammer down and holster"... what if your M&P has the mag safety which prevents the striker from firing with a mag out (which it would be if you showed clear).

Are you required to insert an empty mag to make the striker fire, or if you pull the trigger obviously, will the RO be ok with that?

You are requried to put in a empty mag and pull the trigger under the watchfull eye of the RO.

^ and then remove the empty mag before holstering.

You can't walk around an IPSC range with an empty mag in the grip of a holstered gun.

The Glock is a DAO pistol not a SA. The sear is not fully set until the trigger is pulled. This makes it a DAO gun. The requirement for Production Division is a minimum DA pull of 5#s or greater. Subsequent shots fired SA have not minimum. This is the reason DA/SA guns dominate the Division. While your Glock and my M&P are stuck with constant +5# triggers while DA/SA guns can go from +5# first DA pull to below3#'s for all subsequent shots.

USPSA on the other hand has no such requirement and the Glock 34 and to a lessor extent the M&P Pro (New kid on the block) are seen more and are competitive with their 2.75# triggers.

Take Care

ps Bob Vogel won the World Production Division in Greece this year shooting a Glock 17 so all you Glock shooters can now rule Production Division.:D just like Bob Vogel
