Is there an "inexpensive" side by side?

I luv that Coach gun. Pretty simply. Not much can go wrong with them.

Well actually there is a fairly common problem with the Brazillian made side by side (Stoeger, CBC, FIE, etc). There are a couple of pot metal parts in the trigger mechanism that cause you grief, especially on high millage guns.

You'll know you have a problem when the gun either:
1) Fails to stay cocked when closed, or
2) Fires when closed.

Needless to say a gun that fires when closed is "not a good thing".

To be fair to these guns I have not had a look at recently manufactured one to verify if the offending pot metal bits are still used. Other than the dinky car metal parts they are solid enough.

My money for a low $ SxS is on a Bakial, all steel, rugged and with chrome bores. The Norinco SxS has all handling and feel of a 4x4 piece of lumber.

Probably all relative but the BRNO ZP 149 (?) -- believe that was the designation -- was a sidelock side by side that was available for around $750. It was a screaming bargain for a sidelock of this quality and was "unofficially" the basis of several "bespoke" Limey sidelocks that retailed for the price of a car... fwiw.
