Is there any 416 Barett shooters here?

I have one it's an awesome round but not cheap to get into, brass is harder to come by than the 50 and costs quite a bit more too. $6.25 a brass is the best I've gotten it for. You have to take into consideration of the barrel life too. The snipetac you might get a 1000 rounds out of the barrel before its time to set it back or rebarrel. Lead is easy to come by and it uses a standard mag rifle primer and somewhere in between 127gr to 142 ish grains of powder, so that adds up quick too. For me it's not the cost but how it makes feel! How far have you reached Shawn??

Not far enough yet, 1500 yards isn't hard to get too if you have a spot to shoot that far. My gun is zeroed at 700yards just because of the 40moa rail and the scope I chose to put on it, I didn't have much of an option but to zero it way out there. It doesn't bother me tho, it's not like I built it to shoot it close anyway, I have lots of other guns that can do that. Now that I think about it all my over bores are zeroed at 500 plus yards.

Nice!!

Dare I ask:

What are your opinions of the .338 snipe-tac?? In my head that's my next step - in a couple years.

Play around with JBM and you will find that this larger case pretty much gives you 200 to 300yds of extra super sonic flight vs the 338LM. If you go far enough, all will go subsonic so that really doesn't buy you much.

When I was mucking with ELR shooting, it was more important to have a consistent and reliable launching, then the highest muzzle velocity. Getting velocity variations down to the absolute minimum gave the best results.

If the goal is to extend distance of super sonic flight, these super big fast cartridges do make a difference. Otherwise, alot of extra wear and tear, and maybe more problematic to tune.

Have you shot the 338LM to 1 mile yet? It will make the trip without much fuss.

Even out to 2000yds, the 338LM will get the job done... as will many other set ups. You just need to launch bullets that will go subsonic with stability and there are a bunch that will.

I have not. Just set the 1 mile range up today!!! Had a helluva time doing it!!

My S&B glass will be here this week, as will my .338 dies (finally!!), so I can start tuning, etc.

See my website for info on how to speed up your load tuning.

A chronie is useful but not the end of the world if not used. Let the target tell the tale and be critical of where every shot lands vs conditions and how you released the shot.

It will become very clear what has the lowest vertical dispersion and the best accuracy.

Good luck.

Beautiful rifle ! Which stock is that?

Barrel life is the real cost of a 338 Snipetac. Stevesummit only got 400 rounds before his rebarrel. Already ordered and got his 375 Snipetac barrel after learning that lesson.
The 338 Snipetac was a bloody laser, but a barrel burner!

I'll stick with my 338 Lapua Improved for now.

How long does a re-barreling take?? What's an average cost??
Does truing/blue printing have to be done again?
Do the actions have a lifespan?

-J.

Action is custom and no you never have to do anything with it unless it gets messed up one way or the other. As far as a set back or rebarrel goes I own my own reamer so it's just the cost of having a gunsmith do the work. If you need a new barrel that will all depend on what barrel you go with and the options you chose for it. My barrel has a really long shank so I can set it back at least a couple times.
