Is there any advantage to buying a fixed magnification scope in today's market?

Actual magnification of the FX-I 4x28mm is 3.6x. The 2.5x (2.3x actual magnification) is probably better suited on my .30-06 since its effective range falls way short of my .458 Lott. And my 4x has a dot reticle so it's easy to estimate range and holdover for distant shots.

True, but if you can have Schmidt & Bender who needs variety.

Yes I am finding trouble finding myself. I keep saying the argument "they are generally cheaper" but haven't found that yet! Do you know of a maker that makes both fixed and variable in the same materials?
