Is there ANY chance of AR's becoming Non Restricted?

Like said, the key to any long term success is education, if the public no longer sees the AR as an evil rifle and builds up the attitude that a gun is a gun is a gun then making MAJOR changes will be a breeze. The CPC will enact laws that generally follow public opinion, right now the registry is going down cause it is seen as a failure costing lots of money, so the public opinion is behind it. Let's keep up our part of the program and educate public opinion, people are open minded because of the realisation of the registry failure and Liberal failure, we can expand peoples minds by talking the facts and pointing out the "gun is a gun is a gun" concept.

Long story short, unless we wind up with a conservative majority government, any major changes to the laws are unlikely.
Look at it in a positive light, had the last election gone the other way, we would be in a much worse position.

I think any changes to the firearms laws in the next while are going to be very modest. The CPC is likely just going to slacken off the choke hold the Liberals had on us over the last few years. If the CPC get a majority, then I wouldn't be surprised if the whole firearms act got re-done.

I could see a whole firearms classification re-work.

For as modular as the AR can be and EVIL it can look now is a good time to build some pink frilly wood furniture to dress up an AR in a most non threatening way.

From there on that rifle look is the defacto posrter child for the efforts.

Any takers?

The 'public' had nothing to do with restricting the AR, so what colour you dress it up in will have nothing to do with de-restricting it, nor would the public likely notice the change in classification. This is about political will and ideology, not public pananoia.

Write your MP folks.

Quoted for truth.

Well, theoretically, Stockwell could do it. Many of the current restrictions were brought in with OIC's which were never voted on etc. He now has the authority to start recinding OIC's and issuing new ones. It shouldn't be to difficult under the law to modify some of these things without having to bring in leg.

I don't see they couldn't at least de-restrict AR's over 18" in barrel length. How many criminals are going to find a rifle over 1 m (3 feet) long easy to conceal or appealing for their gangstar value? You can't support it with just one arm over your head, pointed sideways like you can with a Mac-10 or Glock foh-tay..

I think you would have to go on the precidence of De-Restricting the AR in Honour of our hero's overseas or something warm and frilly. That way when Windy makes her guns are evil speech, you can say Windy is against soldiers because they carry almost the same evil gun. People see the AR as a state of the art killing machine as portrayed in the movies. They see surplus rifles ie: M-14, M-1, SKS as obsolete so in the minds of the mindless they are not that dangerous so why restrict those ones?

I could almost go for an SBR U.S like rule. Any centrefire rifles under 16" would need quick registration. No money, just quick over the phone registry. No transportation restrictions attached.

So then at this point in time, does a non-restricted gun like the AR-180b have any chance of becoming a restricted firearm? Because I'm interested in purchasing a non-restricted firearm like it but I'd hate to see it become restricted (therefore raping me of my ability to use it outside of ranges).

i would say that if youre wanting to buy a 180b for example, then buy it and enjoy it now.why wait to see what other governments might do,you'll be waiting forever in that case.

Judging by the way Day has been responding (re 12(x) matters) they're either suppressing the public from speculation or they're really not going to change much.

Hope for the best, expect the worst.
