Is there any good prices on 22LR ammo these days?

It's strange how 30-30 ammo and 12 g slugs are pretty much the same price at places like Canadian tire or Wallmart that they were 6 years ago, but .22lr bulk has gone from $14 to over $40

Was in SW Sask Walmart last night and they had Winchester 333 & 555 boxes for $16 & $25.50 respectively.
Canadian tire had 555 @$28 & 222pack @$13.

On the other end of the scale ( and admittedly a small purchase) ... was in a local Home Hardware and decided to purchase two boxes of .22 Mag that they had in a locked case - sticker said $9.95 per. Seemed pretty good deal and I checked out with other odds and ends including one box of 100rd Win .22lr at $10.95. With plumbing hardware etc bill ran to $95.00. BUT I happened to glance at the cash register as the .22 mag was being scanned and rung up (very hard to see the actual value being registered with the SKU's, Store codes and various other extraneous info appearing on the screen!!) and caught the .22 Mag being tallied at $16.95 a box and the .22lr coming in at $14.95!! Normally I dont pay attention when this happens .. but caught it (luckily) .. lady says "sorry" and re-enters the correct amount!

This sort of thing leaves a VERY bad taste in my mouth and Home Hardware are definitely OFF my Christmas Card list!! Its one thing to post outrageously high prices - I can decide if the convenience warrants the high price - its another to be sneaky about your pricing and cheat!

What's next....$13.00 for a bulk box of 111 rounds.
It's just like Wagon Wheels back in the 70's...... make them smaller, charge the same price, the kids will never notice.... :(

Wow, I posted on another thread if the 222 box was a typo - since I have only seen the 333 boxes. I know see that WASN'T an error. :(

Some retailers in the States are charging upwards of $29.99 for a Winchester 222 round .22LR value pack.

It's freaking crazy out there.

Supply & demand, baby. Less supply...more demand.

Ya baby, but what about all the people that were blaming the price rise of ammo on the price of metals before the meltdown...... ? That was before the panic buying that Obama caused.

Supply and Demand has been partially replaced by "lets see what the market will bear" in recent years.

Pretty soon we will be buying singles at the corner gunstore and lamenting the end of the good ol days of the 222's....

For the guys who think prices will come down---------I sugest you wait to buy your ammo.
Me; I'm going shoppin' & shootin'!!

I will wait, I bought more than enough to last me until the next sale. And even if I don't need any if the price is right I will buy some more just because I can. No such thing as too much ammo.

I am still shooting Blazer I picked up for $170.00 or $180.00 a case (I can't remember exactly) you can pay the inflated prices if you want and whatever is on the shelf is what you get, spotty availabilty if you are after a specific flavour of 22lr.
