Is there any way to import a Sig 516?

Yep, if its US made then it'll probably be chambered and marked in 5.56mm NATO. Getting a fixed stock and muzzle brake (or perm attached muzzle brake I spose) would be fairly simple to do...
Not impossible, if there was a big order they would probably specially ream them for .223 wylde or .223 rem. and not thread it, but of course im sure the order would have to be a few dozen pieces. Not to mention, we already have lots of piston guns, like the Robarms XCR (non restricted) or the LMT ones, so its already a kind of flooded market.

just like the Ruger 556 both of these really doesn't bring anything new to the table, while ther are few people in Canada that will buy it based on brand loyalty, there just won't be enough sales for a dealer to spend the effort and resources to get the manufacturer to make a US export complient model and bring it in. Perhaps once they establish themselves in the US market, the manufacturer might move towards a Canadian version.
There are lot of quality AR's to pick from in Canada, like PWS, LMT, KAC and HK that is lot more refinement than the Sig or you really have your heart set on a piston AR than PWS, Stag and HK are all available as well, but if you are buying it for the brand name than spent money or do the paperwork yourself to export it on your own.

That's funny. The lead designer of the HK 416 was hired by Sig Sauer USA and is said to have corrected all of his mistakes with the 516. In select fire it also has a suppressor setting.
I Can't comment on Sig Sauer USA Quality control these days though.

I already have a Stag Arms DI AR-15 and would like something a little different. Yes there is a little brand myopia contributing to it but I believe that it is well deserved. An MSRP of around 1600 U.S. would bring the 516 to a competitive price range with what is currently available to us for piston ARs (I realize that this is highly subjective).

You can always shoot Questar an email and see if its possible. Again, if its marked 5.56mm NATO then you're out of luck, but if its 'multi' or something then it may be possible.
We have a number of SIG 516's sitting at our US office that were purchased for export to Canada... but US State Department denied the export permit application some months ago and specifically said that the 516 and 716 models were NOT exportable for civilian end-users.
Unless something changes, that is the status as of now.

The sig 516 was supposedly designed by the lead designer of the HK 416, so on paper it should be a good design. My friend owns the Sig 516, and it seems like a real quality rifle.
With that said, there are lots of AR's in Canada. Not much point in bringing up a 516 IMO. also remember, that piston AR's generally have proprietary parts, so getting parts for it will probably be an issue.
