Is there proof that Ruger revolvers are stronger than S&Ws?

I used to have my 2 s/s Ruger Bisley Vaquero's in 45 Colt on my ATC after a few very close black bear encounters while carrying them I realized that I had a personal issue with only having 6 shots and no way of being able to reload even if I had a chance too.

I am going to be applying for my ATC again right away I will be applying to put 2 different handguns onto my permit this time my 4.25" barreled Glock 29 10mm for the winter months or if I am jumping in and out of my truck a lot and my 4.25" barreled Ruger Super Redhawk in 45 /Colt/454 Casull for the rest of the time.

I will most likely never apply to carry a single action revolver again...

:)You're a man with handgun field;) experience that I lack. I have had two 'close' encounters with Black Bears. Both started at about 25 yds and when 'things' went south, they did so very quickly. In one instance, with a 44 lever action, I had time for two quick shots, both of which scored. 250gr cast bullets, both went through end for end and about two or three paces, Bear down.

Under similar circumstances with say a 45 LC single action, I think I could've thumbed two shots, just about as quick. In those circumstances, I don't think I could've done much better, effectively, with a double action. At least not with my double action skills:p. To my way of thinking, if I have to consider, in a close range self defence mode, letting off six and considering reloading, I'm way past my comfort zone and the edge of the envelope of my ability.

I'm really not sure why some people seem to think Smiths are weak. My model 29 has never had any issues with hot 44 mag and my model 27 has been eating through a steady diet of ultra hot 357 JSP ammo for a while with so signs of damage...

So, based on a sample of one, the S&W's are as strong as any Ruger you never owned? Did you read all the posts? Thousands of people used to compete with S&W and Rugers and Dan Wessons and Freedom Arms in silhouette, a shooting game that requires maximum (and then some for some folks) loads all the time, and a lot of them. The guns that broke first? S&W's. I love them, own a bunch, much prefer them to the Rugers (which, let's face it, have all the grace of an agricultural appliance), but the big bore N frames are no where near as strong as the big bore Rugers. The X frame changed that, but at an ungainly cost. FWIW - dan

A few nights ago I watched a movie on TV it starred the wrestler goes by The Rock he carried a Ruger Alaskan in 454 Casull = Ruger's have to be the toughest if the Rock carried one...

:p
