I was looking on a US gun forum yesterday, and it looks like someone there is planning to bring in some semi Mp44's in 8mm Kurz from a German company called El be tac.

Hopefully it won't be like the SSD (Shooting Systeme Dittrich) debacle, in which there were heat treatment issues (as well as other issues).

Price isn't listed--but I think if you have to ask it means it'll be too much. The US forum guys speculated on $4k :(

How many of you would pay that much for a rare ( presumably non restricted) bird like this?

Even before the reports of problems surfaced, the SSDs weren't exactly leaping off the shelves.

FWIW, a VG1-5 is going into limited production in the US.

I would love to have one. It would have to have an 18.5inch barrel at least, to be non-restricted.
I have to admit that I adore my .22 LR GSG Stg44, it is so much fun to shoot. It is also keeping my 12(3)
MP44 company.

Saw the rifle at the SHOT Show, thought it looked suspiciously like an SSD (Sport-Systeme Dittrich) and was suspicious that it was merely SSD rebranded in an attempt to avoid their bad reputation.

Looking at EL BE Tac's website, they even list them in the same fashion as SSD (BD38, BD44, etc).

And a Google search comes up with this page ( https://disqus.com/by/elbetac/ ), in which they say that they are just the US Distributor 'working closely with SSD' to fix the heat treating issue that arose with many of the US imported guns.

That being said, only issue I have with my SSD BD44 is that it's hard on brass, to the point that it can sometimes rip the base off entirely. Not sure if that's an issue with the brass (PRVI - whom I dislike for brass anyways) or the gun though.

^^A rebranded SSD? That's not good at all :(

Well, maybe the only good thing is if they have no issues this time around they should be able to use their FRT number to get into Canada faster. But if the reliability/quality isn't there, they can stay in Germany.
