Looking at new packs, but can't really find the info I'm looking for. I'd like to find something that's comfortable, has capability of carrying 80lbs without killing my back or blowing apart, and priced ~$250.

I know that packs are like everything else, and you get what you pay for, but thought maybe someone had a little gem they've found...

Really depends on what your looking for. I have a Deuter hiking pack for sale in the EE, have a look. There ain't a pack out there that will make 80lbs feel like 50, but some will make the job less miserable. You gotta decide on what kind your are looking for, internal frame or external. A pack for hauling all your gear and the game or just a pack board for carrying meat...or one that will do both. My Kifaru is great, also cost me almost 800 bucks, I've had lots of North Face, MEC, Deuter, they where all quite good, but I sold them off as I wanted to try other stuff. Remeber, lots more people go "hiking" then pack back hunting, so they're is lots of choice for "hiking" packs not so much for hunting packs. If you want a really good hunting specific pack you're gonna pay for it, if you can handle a hiking pack for colour and material and throw a camo cover on it now and then...the choices are endless.

I guess my biggest concern is getting one that will hold together under stress. Most sites list ci storage, but not the weight capability. 3000ci of foam is a lot different than moose meat...

I looked at the Black Creek Western, but only know what I've read on it, not sure if it will hold up or not. I don't need one for a week long hike, but may need to pack out meat with it...

Also doesn't need to be camo, green, grey, brown, or black is good though...

Im not too found of the eberlystock packs. They look real awkward and I find them uncomfortable to wear. ive worn a tatonka 70 liter pack for 4 seasons now. its not a hunting pack but i can pack a whole sheep off a mountain. i blew a zipper out 3 years ago but thats the only thing that has come up and it was my falt.

cabelas has some good looking external frame packs that look good. if it doent hold up or you dont like it send it back.

I just picked up a Mystery Ranch Longbow looking for the same thing you are now and it seems to be what I was after. I needed something that made accessing my spotting scope convenient, wasn't to bulky, yet had the capability to pack out allot heavier than when it went in. This pack seems to fit all those criteria. The ability to move the bag away from the frame sold me. Plus, I got a pretty good deal on the frame.

In reality, I do the lions share of my hunting hiking 4-10 miles a day but ending up back at my vehicle. I try and get into the mountains once a year for 4-10 days at a time hunting sheep and Elk but even then I do much of my sheep hunting on the weekend and even after work in the evenings. So I told myself to get set up with a good pack for that application and my Osprey will get the longer hauls.

Now for the price. I was able to pick up a new NICE frame for $150 and the bag was $189. $89 over your budget but I think worth considering.
