Is this a bullet failure?

havn't had the chance to recover one yet out of a deer :( :)

25-06 just punches right through, hell one I shot went through and broke both sholders but still exited the deer :)

I'm thinking of using them now for my 7mmRemmag and Moose.

I don't believe that was a failure. As you say, the bear is in the freezer. The Nosler Ptn is designed to shed the front core and I can't see how it can even remain intact after hitting the target. The bullet is designed to keep the rear shank intact. My vote - not a failure.

From my 2003 moose at 300 yards. Hit a rib and went through the heart and broke the offside shoulder. Bullwinkle just wobbled and laid down within 15 feet of where he was hit. Hard to complain about that. My favourite hunting bullet, bar none.

Looks like good retention, I'm really thinking of switching, I've got a 300Mag on order I think I'll start off with noslers for that one as well

We used noslers for many years in the 7mm mag - 175 grains. I don't think we recovered a one, but based on some of the rather 'explosive' initial damage inside the cavity, followed by a good but much smaller wound channel and exit, i'd guess they did pretty much the same thing.

ALways dropped the animal tho. Hard as a rule.

If the bullet's still got 60-65 percent of it's weight, it's hard to call it 'failure'. Especally if you pulled it out of a dead animal. Maybe if there was evidence the bullet 'tumbled' or did minimal damage inside you could claim it's 'failure' but that doesn't sound like the case here.

Meat in the freezer is not a failure IMO. A buddy of mine had the same thing happen to his Nosler Partition, I guess it is the way it is susposed to work. It deposits it's energy inside the animal and is still able to create a decent wound channel and exit wound. Nothin wrong with that!

Bullets can and do fail.

Many times we have heard "At what point during the death of the animal did that bullet fail"

My definition of bullet failure is simple:

If the bullet did not do what it was supposed to do, under it's design perameters.

SO as an extreme example-you cannot expect a varmit grade bullet to penetrate both shoudlers of an elk, or an X bullet to expand on a rabbit, etc.

Of course, there are miles and miles of different examples that we can compare with regard to failures.:)

PS Your Partition looks fine, exacly waht it issupposed to do.;)

They're hell on moose out of a 7mm mag - the 175's will put nice holes in 'em, but you won't find the bullet to tell if it failed or not very often :) great penetrators.
