Is this a CRACK in my reciever?

Henry .22lr Golden Boy. I noticed them while cleaning the rifle today. I noticed what looked like cracks in the clear coat, but when I chipped the clear coat off of one if appears to be a CRACK, in my brand new gun. This is the underside on the front of the lever opening in the reciever.

Warranty. I wasn't aware they don't polish the recievers to a shine. A clear coat kind of ruins it for me.

Looks like plating is flaking off. Also looks to be starting on opposite side as there appears to be an indentation much like the obvious one..Sorry to see that happen..

Is that the plating or clear coat? I though they were clear coated over the plating. Anyways, yes, I also noticed it beginning at the other corner.

I've conacted Henry. I'm wondering how a warranty repair will work, being in Canada and Henry in the USA. Will I have to fill out all the export paperwork to send it??

Cracked for sure. Why? Cheapo off-shore materials probably. Maybe cheapo off-shore manufacturing too? Agree, that yellowish clearcoat is fugly, but who wants to polish brass these days?

Brass plated onto an aluminum alloy reciever, and possibly finished with a clear coat to keep it shiny. The 'Big Boy' rifles have solid brass recievers according to the cataglogue.

Let's hope that they replace the rifle through their Cdn. distributor. Otherwise you will have to go through the process of permanently exporting one rifle, and permanently importing the replacement.

MATT, keep up your postings on the "other" site south of us and I'm sure you will be taken care of personally by Mr Imperato. No manufacturer is going to want to tarnish their reputation especially on such a site tailored to the sales and reliability of their product. Sounds like you got a lemon though. Keep us informed, I've got a H001L and it's nice to know how we are to take care of any issues with the Henrys.

Am I mistaken in thinking that it would make more sense to send a new product that has flaws back to who you bought it from ?

Shouldn't they have arrangements in place with the manufacturer to send back any defective/flawed products and get a replacement ?

I assume you own a Henry Golden Boy. those are what we call polishing lines not cracks - they are right in front of the trigger area in the corners.

Definately send them the pictures. Yes, a buffing wheel can leave lines where it is interrupted by a change in the contour, but that is not a polishing line. A polishing line would be straight. At the very least, its a casting flaw and an ugly one at that, that will significantly devalue the gun. I wouldn't buy a used gun that had what appeared to be cracks. Would you?

It's probably not a crack in the receiver, but just a thin spot in the plating that gets polished through. Still a defect IMHO and I would return the rifle and buy a Marlin or Browning.
