I believe they were all push feed from 1964 til 1991.

For several decades, I hunted white tail deer in Saskatchewan with a Model 70 Winchester XTR in 308 Win - but the stock chequering was different than on that one. I took many dozen head of deer with that rifle. Then I got a Winchester XTR "Super Magnum" in 338 Win Mag, after getting my first elk with that 308 Win. I thought that I had the "world by the tail" - a BPS 12 gauge, a Ruger 10-22, a 308 Win XTR and a 338 Win Mag "Super Magnum". Our son has that 308 Win now - he has taken many white tail and mule deer with it - and his first elk. Since those early days, I also have an XTR "Sporter" in 300 H&H, and an XTR in 270 Win and an XTR in 6.5x55, but none have that chequering design like the one the advert shows in pictures.

Hunh! Apparently I've never owned a "Featherweight" - I had presumed that maybe chequering patterns were different in different parts of the world. Was the "Featherweight" significantly lighter than a "regular" Model 70 XTR? I presume the metal was the same - only the stock as difference? Or was the barrel shorter as well?

Typically they have a slender 22” barrel, a slim stock with Schnabel forend , distinctive checkering and thats about all the difference. Magnumish cartridges come with 24” barrels.
I do have a Supergrade Featherweight with more conventional checkering so that isn’t engraved in stone.
These days they aren’t really considered particularly light, but they are lighter than the standard M70s.

I just got a push feed mod70 in 300 win mag, never been keen on push feed for some reason or an other, but that one was free… so took it all apart, cleaned up and refinishing the stock that was in less than pristine condition with finish worn through so I stripped the finish off, replace the rock hard recoil pad with a limbsaver, decided to try my hand at a shadow line cheek piece, it is a Monte-Carlo but was chunky and ugly.
Sanded everything to 400 grit and added a generous coat of alkanet roots powder and linseed oil mix I had soaking for a long time, it is turning out better than expected!!

Nah you're right an that scope that he told me was a "Vx1 3-9x40" is a vari x iii 2.5-8x36 so someone take my Wallet off me
Edit- no it's a RH but I'm just so used to that , Moved on my LH Abolt to a young fella and it's been giving the deer population a hiding over the river (different state)
An just have the Little Zastava 85 now (7.62x39). Which is for "my son" remember
. But he likes the 222 these days an thats fair, he doesn't shoot much at all.... Don't think I can sell that little beauty .The T3 battue is just a daily grab and go (when I'm not grabbing and go-ing with something else... 303...35...708 etc
I think we are allowed 15 before hefty safes, gun rooms, electronic locks and security cameras etc.
