is this a fair trade?

Based on what I`ve read about them I wouldn`t even trade a double cheeseburger from McD`s for one.

I'd trade a cheeseburger for a 770.

It's like picking up that ugly chick at the bar. You aren't proud of it, but it still a fun at time, and another notch on the bedpost.
As long as shes "safe to shoot".

The 770 is cheap crap for someone who's not sure if they like shooting. Brand new they're $310 with scope, meaning used you're looking at $200-250, the value of your scope alone is probably higher than that whole 770 setup.

If someone wanted to give me a Remington 770, they would have to pay me to take it off their hands. They are the rifle equivalent of junk handguns from Lorcin, Jennings, Hi-Point, and the like.

I think there was a story about a Rem.770 left in a truck, unattended.

When the owner got back, the truck had been broken into, and the perp. left another one.:D

Definitely not a good trade, but the 770s although built like crap (especially the stock), do shoot. I bought one of the combos for $250 shipped off the EE in 300wm for a neighbour and it will keep 3 shots under an inch with factory winchester.

i have a marlin 30/30 with a leupold rifelman 2-7x33mm scope on it. i have a freind that wants to trade me his remington 770 7mm mag with a tasco 3-9x50mm scope. is this a reasonable trade or am i getting the short end of the stick?

Short end of the stick. I would not make that trade.

The other day I was shooting at the range and the man next to me was shooting a model 770 in a 300 win mag. Every time he shot something else fell apart. keep the marlin, you will be dissapointed if you take the remington

The 770 is not even worth a good picture of a pre remington marlin!

Do yourself a favour and scratch that guy off your list of friends, anyone who would try to rip you off that bad is not someone you can trust, if a person tried to gyp me off like that i would consider them scum!

Definatly not friend material.

A Marlin lever action in .30-30 is a classic, in good serviceable condition it is a desireable gun. A Remington 770 in new condition is not.

A Leupold Rifleman is a pretty good scope. The Tasco is not in the same league.
