There is a marlin papoose in the EE right now for $475... I know I could get one BNIB for $239 at WSS but this one is used, hence the extra $250 "break-in" fee. Is it really worth it to pay double what the gun is worth just because it's used?

...just sayin' f:P:

$250 break in fee?? Ya, that's a good deal. I usually charge $300-$325. Jump on it.
If it's not broke in good and proper, send it to me and I'll help ya out. ;)

Does it come with a Bushnell............. :p

Awwww Gary, you were bust'in for this one........ :D

Eye hear Bushnell got wind of your Bushnell fettish and
they are sending you one......... aux gratis........

Problem is that it's on backorder.
Like everywhere else.
To me "backorder" means you have no idea if you get it tomorrow, next month, next year, or never.

Bird in the hand and all that...

After du research and deliberation, I have come to the following answer.

Yes, "break in" fees are quite common on the EE.

Since you asked for advice, please send $40 "Consulting Fee" to my e-mail address.

As a free bonus answer, for being such a good customer, I will note the following.

You do not need it that bad that you have to pay double the price of a new one for it.

PM sent.

That one has been heavily customized... for which you pay dearly... the bore was slugged with a special "Blazer" compound... the breach was polished with an acrid powder and the bolt was blasted with custom debris... and to top it off there was a star emblem added to the muzzle... all that hard work adds up... but you know what they say... you get what you pay for... sometimes more... sometimes WAY LESS! ;)

Indeed. You could also call it an "I'll borrow this until the warranty is over for you then charge you" fee.

There's another recent thread where a guy was asking where he could get a 10/22 for under $1,000, since all the EE ones are pimped up with quad rails equipped with strobe lights and snowblowers.

My hatred for tactifool rifles grows daily...
