is this a good load for 44 mag???

That sounds like a magnum primer. You do not need a magnum primer in the 44 mag.
10 grains of 231 is a very accurate, but light load. It gives about an even 1,000 fps in a tight revolver with 6inch barrel, so probably about 1,200 in your rifle.
For full power loads I reccommend 24 grains of Winchester 296, or H110 powder.
That will give a good 1,400 in a tight revolver, about 1,700 in your rifle and is about as accurate a load as you will find.
Similar results will come from 21, to a MAXIMUM of 22 grains of 2400 powder.

My go to load for my .44 mag Handi-Rifle is 24.5 grains of Lil'Gun with a Winchester large pistol primer pushing a BDX 240 grain JSP. Fantastic load for me, a real tack driver and plenty of punch on whitetails. Be cautious as it's a max load according to Hodgdon. It's listed as 1582fps out of a pistol so I figure it's up around 1900fps from the 22" rifle.

Bruce,

The 300 is the standard primer, the 350 is the magnum version. I think CCI designates all of their standard primers as X00, magnums as X50. At least all the ones I have on hand fall into this system. I do agree that using magnum primers is unnecessary for the .44 Mag.

OP, I use 8.0gr of W231 under a Keith 245gr SWC as a medium target load in my Redhawk. 10.0gr would be snappier but nothing really hot overall.
