Hey guys,

Well a friend of the family dropped of a package for me last week after I told him I was thinking about getting a M1 Garand.

It turns out it's a Springfield Armoury M1 Garand he says he bought about 15 years ago from Lever Arms I think and never got around to opening the package. It was still wrapped in the brown paper he bought it in and the whole thing is still covered in an ample serving of grease(cosmoline?).

I think's it's surplus but I haven't a clue about these guns and am wondering if there's anything interesting about it or if it's worth anything, these are the numbers:

On receiver: US Rifle cal 30M1, Springfield Armoury, 1488523
Right side of receiver: D28291-27
Trigger group: D28290-14-SA
Bolt: D28287-12SA, RE6B
Op Rod: 6535382SA
Inside the stock: nr-1488523
Dato Aug 1991, Skytte SJELLANDSKE PARKOMRADE (I think)

So... I guess it's not that old if it's from '91, but it's in some foreign language, is there any value to it or is it pretty basic and should I clean it up and go shoot it? And how much should I pay for it, cheaper the better, but I have to be honest with him...

Of course pics...

It is very likely a Danish M1 .
For various reasons these can not be imported into the U.S. Lever sold some very nice examples for less than $150.00. I paid $99.00 for one that was in better than very good condition (some worn bluing and a couple of dings in the stock.)

Skytte SJELLANDSKE PARKOMRADE

is danish and means"shooter, sjaellandske park-area"

sjeallandkse is the island where copenhagen is location, and a "park-area" directly translated.

nice m1!

EDIT to add, may have been a park ranger rifle, used to control the deer population or such, since in 91, denmark used h&k g3's, if i recall correctly.

Danish M1. Actually a USGI WW2 era M1 given to Denmark in the late 1940's, rebuilt by the Danes in 1941.

Today that's a $500-600 rifle. I know - crazy huh?

Production date ca. April 1943. The bolt is correct for that ser# range, your other bits are from later models.
Anybody notice the uber expensive lockbar sight?

OOOOOhhhh .....I remember those days. $150 each or four for $400. My friends and I bought 4 Garands and they were all excellent shooters. All of us still have those M1's, great keepers. One of those 'best buys' in my life. Wish I would have bought 10, or at least 4 of 'em for myself. I recall we also bought 200 enblocs for $50 USD and 5000rds Greek 3006 for $180 USD/1000rds. LIke Archie Bunker says...."Them was the days" . :)

Yes, it certainly is a treasure - enjoy it.

I still think that these are them days 300$ for an uncut enfield or even less for a mosin will seem like a wet dream in 20 or 30 years.

Yah but in 20 or 30 years a cup of coffee will prob' cost $50. :D

Yup, I loved Allan's "collector packs" gives me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that all those rifles are out there somewhere :)

It is a treasure... it is a RIFLE. And you have a very nice one. It is a truly Jovian instrument.

The Garand has been praised by some very serious riflemen, and can still hold its' own alongside the latest / greatest fad rifles that come along.

A true RIFLE like yours can "stop a man, horse or truck engine at ranges of half a mile and beyond.." yet it is quick enough for close quarter duty. (Paraphrased from Col. Cooper)

Enjoy it!

Cheers,

Ben

Early model sight, the rectangular bar was threaded down to lock the sight in place. Found on earlier models that haven't been messed with. Later versions didn't use the bars and were apparently more useable. They lock bar ass'y are often more expensive because collectors need them to make early rifles "correct".
