Thanks for the replies, I conclude that it is a bit rough, but not the end of the world. Thanks!

p.s. these are the url's of the pics if you are getting red dots it might help.

I bought this barrel new, but it has what appears to be toolmarks on it.
Is this normal, or should I send it back?

Thanks!

Edit:
2 Mech Tech CCU barrels (Left:eek:ld one has fake Muzzle Brake with smooth lands and grooves, unfired right one has circular grooves parallel to the crown). Maybe it is just new, I dunno.

What kind of barrel and where are the tool marks?
I meant the concentric circular lines in the photo parallel to the crown, inside the bore. The barrel is a 45 ACP carbine. The other gun barrels I have don't have lines like that. Thanks!

Well I am not seeing any picture but I would have to ask, "How is the accuracy?" It does not really matter what a barrel looks like if it shoots well.

It doesn't shoot at all, the bolt doesn't go forward far enough to reset the 1911 disconnector.
I was just curious about the marks on the barrel, I hadn't seen that before.

I see the photos, you must have a good camera. It looks like the marks continue onto the lands is that true?

Probably best to send these photos to the company that made the barrel see what they say.

If you don't get a response from them follow guntechs advice and see how it shoots.

"...bolt doesn't go forward far enough..." That's more important than tool marks are. Re-post the pictures though.

Do the gooves only go 1cm deep into the barrel? If so, it was probably tooling
from whatever they used to make the crown.

I can't tell of the grooves are deep or just surface scuff. If you fire a few rounds could they disappear? If so then nothing to worry about.

Unsure if it will affect accuracy, but it is poor craftsmanship for sure (it's like they used steel guide instead of brass guide).

I see the photo's just fine. The inside of the barrel does look a little rough but I would not worry about it; see how it shoots first. You could hand lap the barrel to smooth it out.

OK, thanks for the replies. The marks stop the chamber, which is smooth. I might be able to move the barrel back myself to get it firing, which is optimistic of me, so it will go back as soon as they return my call and email.
Thanks!

Guntech, I can see the pics and the bore looks like its been rifled in both directions. Kind of looks like some of the early Ubertis bores, full of horizontal rings and chatter marks.
If it were mine, I would have sent it back before mounting it. I'm surprised the gunsmith that did the work even put it on. If he sold it to you, I would look for another smith.
That bore looks like a reject from the scrap barrel.
Was the bbl from a discount dealer for under $125? You get what you pay for, but there is a limit to everything. bearhunter
