Hey Guys, Just want to get some opinions if you think this castle nut is properly staked or if it needs to be staked further. I think it is but I'm not positive. If you're wondering why the endplate looks messed up just above the staking, it was reused after being staked and removed.

Thanks.

Well it's not "pretty" but it may be doing the job? ideally you want to use a rectangular punch and move the material from the end plate into the notch, as "cleanly" as possible.

Same.. Didn't know it was a thing till last night and again today...
operators only? I quess??

Didn't know about staking the castle nut?

It's an approved method, among Loctite and a few more, for ensuring the castle nut doesn't back off through the course of fire and use. That's why most nuts have little recesses on the forward edge.

Stake looks fine to me and yes you must stake or some people might loctite it.

The factory and military always stake them too.
