Is this crazy?

I just cut into a $300 Wilson Combat hand guard so I could fit it around an Adams Arms piston system on my 11.5 AR. I have bought 4 hand guards so far in an effort to find one that will fit over the AA low profile gas block... so far, non work. I was researching a new AA railed gas block with an extended hand guard to fit around it. But then, I just figured, what the heck, I have a dremel and i have hand guards sitting here. I can do this myself.

Im just headed out to swap the barrel nuts so I can mount the Wilson hand guard on the gun and see if it all fits. if not, its a $300 piece of scrap I guess. Ill post pics once I get it on the gun.

Just wondered if this makes me crazy or not?

I took a file to me surfire quadrail. Not everything fits nice... You are not crazy if it works.

Im crazy... doesnt work. Barrel nut is too big and not enough room for the piston rod... darn it. I suppose I could use this hand guard with a standard railed gas block still. The actual mod job looks good... just doesnt work with the AA system. Oh well.

Ergo makes a rail that fits, I sink model called Ergo "Z" .. Some Samson rails fit too..

Why not just modify the barrel nut?

Its not just the barrel nut thats the problem. The entire upper channel in the rail is too small to fit the op rod... I think I'm going to get a DD Lite rail 9.5... that will fit and work. Cryin shame about the Wilson rail though. It was sweet. Im sure ill find a home for it somewhere.

DD Light rail 9.5 FSB works well with a carbine gas system.

Samson Manufacturing makes a rail/handguard to fit the piston guns. They will ship to Canada.

your not alone i have buy quadrail doesnt not work because piston i trash it in garbage! $$$

I just stuck with the Magpul MOE for my piston. Saved the Quad for DI.

Got the gun all together with the adams arms light weight bolt carrier and an ACE Skeleton stock and after I get the rail (only about 14oz or so) its going to be one LIGHT gun... especially for a piston gun.
