Is this Czech ammo any good ?

It's true, the going price for the sks-D is about $400. The reason: there is demand because of the look cool factor and supply is limited because apparently they're not making them anymore.
I bought one brand new a few months ago. I got it sent from a home hardware in saskatchewan. I think they were one of the last places to have new sks-D's in stock. As far as I know there are no more new ones, anywhere.

AK mags are available in the EE.

I use the czech ammo in my sks and sks-D. After shooting I spray it with windex and then run a windex patch through it. I basically manage to get windex everywhere. Then I lightly oil the barrel. Absolutely no rust. I'm not afraid of corrosive ammo...
 
I spray windex down the barrel, onto the chamber, onto the face of the bolt, and into the gas cylinder. Everywhere that would be exposed to the burning powder. For the patch, I just use a normal gun cleaning patch, soak it with windex, and draw it through the barrel a couple times.
 
Also if you have a good nose you can tell if your rifle has been cleaned of said corrosive salts...as they are Über stinky. :puke:

I paid $ 240 for mine new a few months ago, but knowing what I know now ;) I would pay $400 without a second thought. You would be able to sell your D for $400 without any problems, you did not pay too much.
 
Jilted - your right, I still have the reasle value of it.

Where do I ge these "patches" to clean my gun ? and what are they ?

If I wipe my gun down with furniture oil, is it ok if it gets on the metal parts of the gun ? and what kinda of oil could I use to make the wood stock darker ? without having to sand the stock down and stain it, thanks.

Patches are pieces of cloth used to clean/oil the bore of your rifle. You can buy them at gun stores or just cut your old cotton t-shirts up into strips to make them.
 
I'll temper the advice of cutting up old t-shirts by saying that whatever cotton material you use for your patches, it shouldn't be too much so that the patch won't go through, and you want to avoid little pieces of loose cotton being left in the barrel.


Look for Butch's triple twill shotgun patches, and cut them to the size for your particular cleaning need.

All you need is kitchen roll if you know what I mean. Like toilet tissue but a bit thicker, that's all I ever use, works fine.

I'm glad you got one direct from the source. I discovered that he had quite a few and bought one myself, I then told a fellow CGN member who bought one and then posted a "heads up". The majority were sold to a dealer who frequents this forum, guess how much he was asking for them. This really pissed me off. :mad:
 
for patches I buy white cotton material by the metre at the local fabric store. :) A good pair of sharp cissors, in front of the TV, in about a half hour I have a good pile of patches for my next cleaning sessions. I make rifle and shotgun patches that way ;)
