It's true, the going price for the sks-D is about $400. The reason: there is demand because of the look cool factor and supply is limited because apparently they're not making them anymore.
I bought one brand new a few months ago. I got it sent from a home hardware in saskatchewan. I think they were one of the last places to have new sks-D's in stock. As far as I know there are no more new ones, anywhere.

I use the czech ammo in my sks and sks-D. After shooting I spray it with windex and then run a windex patch through it. I basically manage to get windex everywhere. Then I lightly oil the barrel. Absolutely no rust. I'm not afraid of corrosive ammo...
