I've been reloading our empty shotgun shells for a few years now for clay shooting. This time though I accidentally topped up the powder hopper with number 9 shot. I realized the mistake right away and I tried to take out as much shot as I could hoping that I could salvage it without getting much gunpowder in it. So now when I got everything straightened out the powder was purely just powder but the shot hopper had a few flakes of gunpowder in it. I reloaded anyways not thinking much of it but now im wondering if this is even safe to shoot.

Sparknotes: There are a few flakes of powder mixed in with the shot, is it still safe to shoot?

If it is only a few flakes I don't see the problem. Now if you loaded up powder then the wad and then more powder that should be interesting.

Yeah, you should be ok with only a couple of flakes in the shot. What's the worst that could happen? It stays in your barrel. It flies out with the rest of the shot. Or it somehow burns midflight?

I like the way you think my friend.

Thanks, up til now I thought I was the only one that did that:redface:

I didn't have any issues, it all comes out the same end anyway. Ever shot a shotgun in the dark. It shoots a 2 ft flame out every time:cool:
