Is this done by a moose??

When I was out deer hunting this fall, I came across the same. I couldn't believe the amount of small trees a cow and calf (found their droppings) hit.

ETA - WTF does photobucket keep rotating my pic?

Fantastic! Thanks so much for all your input! I knew you guys would have the answer!
I love this forum! Now, we'll have to feed em to make sure they stick around till hunting season! ;)
Beaver with false teeth....... heeheehee!!

The deer rub trees and moose rub mainly on bushes. Deer make scrapes, moose dig and urinate in water puddles they dig for themselves, then they lay in it or splash themselves as cows go "crazy" by the smell.

The marks left behind actually look like it was made by a porcupine's teeth in taylorjw pics.. The marks are too close to the ground for deer and complete bark is missing not shredded.

In the previous pics , the teeth marks of moose are distinctly different than the shredded bark from deer tines.

Moose for sure. I've watched them strip bark from both what is locally refered to as striped (or "moose" ) maple & smooth barked soft maple, usually something in the 4-5" diameter range. Not uncommon to see from mid-September right through to the end of April.
