So I have come to a binding contract with my better half. One rifle and one handgun at a time. No more, no less. Failure to meet the condition of this contract will result in immediate injunction against....well, me. (don't laugh...)

With rifle, I'm not that worried. I already know what I want. But I still don't know which handgun I should get. You lucky %$#&@ get to have more than one, so you can pick your pick, but I can't. I've went to the range and tried out a few, but they all seem so good. Finally, I have boiled it down to 2 choices. CZ-75 SP-01 or Steyr M-A1 in 9mm. They are all under $1000 I believe.
But my problem is, should I wait a little longer, save some more money, and get Sig or USP? I mean... am I missing out? I don't want my one and only pistol to fill me with regret. Are Sig and USP that much more worth it, for me to postpone my one and only enjoyment in the world? (It's hard to save money for myself when your wife is saving even dime and nickel to buy our first house... :( I don't want to be bad husband, you know?)

Only one of each!? Ouch.......hope the contract specified one girlfriend too.;)

Have you fired the Sig or HK? If you're only allowed one, better make sure you have a chance to fire all your prospective choices. That way you can be sure to pick the one that works best for you.

Well, i bought my one centerfire as a P99.
I guess it's fair enough, for a person to only own one......
It's better than nothing.
I also have 2 rimfires though, a P22, and a S&W 22a, but those are really for the kids, who are my part time kids, every second weekend.
They love going to the range.........
So, anyway, find one you like, stick with it, and enjoy.......
I tried alot before i bought though.....
So that is a good reccomendation.....

Share my pain, please? Share my pain.

Oh, I do feel your pain, and I'm glad it's not me! Here's how I do it. Both the wife and I get a weekly allowance. I know it sounds silly but it works. The money we get covers all non-family related expenses. Like eating out, magazines, etc. I save up my allowance and can spend it on whatever I like, without comment from her. Like the S&W auto's that seem to keep following me home lately.:)

Maybe you can talk her into a deal like this? There's always a chance, right?

Here is how I do it. I buy whatever I want, whenever I want, and the wife doesn't say sh*t. Mind you it goes both ways, I don't say sh*t about her 200sqft walk in closet full of shoes and clothes either.

There is a positive aspect to this story. "Fear the man with one gun" As Stevo says, find a gun that feels right, and if you can try it, all the better. Shooting one gun all the time is going to make you become very familiar and comfortable with it, and even if it's not perfect for you, I believe your going to be an accurate and fast ( if your not already) if you constantly use the same pistol. I swear I could have won many competitions in my life, but I never stuck to one gun long enough to reach it's potential.

Thats an easy one. Now you need to buy "her" a pistol.:D "Whats that honey? You don't want a pistol? But it's a nice pistol! Well, if you don't want to shoot it........" The worst case senario is that you get a pistol because "I'll loose a bundle on resale, just like taking a car of the lot" Then you wait three or four months and buy "her" another one. "I really want you to enjoy this with me honey......" (they can be suckers when they think you want to include them in your life) Eventually she'll give up and live with it. (or shoot you) either outcome is better than life with only one handgun.

Best case, she turns out to like shooting too, and eggs you on. :D

PS This plan works, my better half (and she really is!) now just rolls her eyes and ignores me when I carry another case in.

One idea you might work on is getting your Missus into shooting... It took a little while, but now my wife is a shooter, and our "agreement" on firearms is that I am only allowed to own twice as many as she is...

Any more than that, and I'd need to get another safe, so to me, this is reasonable (for now!).

Don't take the heckling from some of the boys here too hard... I bet some of them don't have anybody EXCEPT their guns to cuddle up with at night(!).

(Kidding, boys... Don't go getting your panties in a twist!)

Man... you guys can say the nicest things...
Hey, my wife isn't saying I can't have guns I want, while she goes out and gets herself whatever she wants, OK? If she was like that then I wouldn't listen like I do, right? But my wife hasn't even gotten herself any decent clothings for the last two years. Not even shoes. When grocery shopping, she does all she can to save money. Now, if your better half is doing all that in her effort to have a house (mind you I do the samething with money, that's why it's marriage :) ) then you do what you can to support her, not tell her to go to hell!
What I said about contract, it's just a joke, but I need to, and want to, do this for my wife. Spending more than 1000s of dollars right now isn't the best, but she is still ok with two guns, that's more than I can ask for. That's how you work in marriage. Can't be all selfish, you know?
Anyway, once we secure mortgage and signed on our first house, then I can have certain amount of freedom with my money. I mean this thing isn't forever. Just until the baby comes. Muwahahaha~ :(

If you're going to have only one handgun, save up a little and buy the gun you always wanted. HK USP and Sig P226 are about as good as modern service-type pistols get. They are also not that much more expensive than the guns that you listed ( if you shop around). You can buy a basic Nitron P226 from the Shooting edge for $999 or a USP from Wolverine Supplies for $1055.

If you really only are going to have one... Save up and get the bestest one you can...

For me I'd be saving for an STI Edge... Oh wait, just bought one that I saved up for.... :D

In the meantime, get out there and fondle as many as you can at stores, and get guys to let you try theirs out and see what you really like best. Thats the one to get.

I thought it was a limit of what you could buy at one time, not a total limit of what you could own. :(

well ummmm, I really cant help you out much, I've never even contemplated having less then double digits.

My wife complains that I spend too much on guns but I have made some comprimises and that works. I suggest you get her involved show her what you want and the prices, then don't go for the most expensive with all the fancy bells and whisles on it, go for what you can afford, that way you can eventually negotiate another purchace sometime down the road.

It is all about negotiation. For me it was one of each caliber: 22,9,40,45. Then there was no room in the safe (including ammo). So I decided which models I wanted and worked my way, slowly but surely towards that goal.
The trade-off: 1)diammond eternity band (which coincided with her birthday & wedding anniversary; 2) landscaping (her gardening is her therapy equivalent to my going to the range); 3)trip to Las Vegas.
Bottom line everybody got what they wanted.

I predict a long and happy marriage for you!;) That being said, go with the suggestion to buy the one you REALLY want. If money is an issue though, try to throw a .22 like a ruger mk 2 or 3 into the mix, its way cheaper to shoot.

That's pretty much the way it works around our place too. Once in a while I will address the FACT that the shoes and purses can't even be given away, but the guns can go for about for up to 80% of retail or more for a collectors classic.

TIP: A good gun safe will keep the guns safe from the Mrs.; think of it as a secure closet, instead of a clothes rack it contains a gun rack.

One of each means one shotgun also!
