if i bought an 80% recioever, could i classify it as a pistol in canada?

That should work. Worst case scenario, you might have to have the short barrel installed on it and get it verified.

It becomes prohibited if you cut down the stock barrel. But suppose he were to purchase a short barrel. And also a pistol grip.

He removes the barrel action from the stock and removes the old barrel. He now installs the new parts.

I say he has created a restricted weapon with the new parts.

Joe.

Sorry, but you can not re-classify a non-restricted into a restricted without going staight to prohib. It sucks, but there is no legal way to create a restricted out of a non-restricted. The project your talking about could be done only with a new "virgin" reciever, registered from the outset as restricted.

I too wanted to make up a short 8" barreled 10/22 with a folding stock, but importing it as such was the only option available.

You would think that since you can rebarrel a short semi like the M1 Carbine, and reclassify it as a non-restrcted, that it would be possible to do the same with a non-restricted. Doesn't fly unfortunately.

And I look in my FRT CD and see nothing that would indicate what you are saying. If this is so then why do krinker plinkers with a 16" barrel go restricted without hassle?

I've never seen a restricted Krinker Plinker yet. If anyone has made one, let me know, because I'm doing it right now, but with a virgin imported 10/22 receiver as restricted. Don't forget any Krinker Plinker has an 8" or 8.75" barrel, the 16" krinker is just an 8" barrel with a 8" fake silencer on the end.

If anyone is still looking for one of these, Magnum Research is now making the Picuda, a 10/22-based pistol that accepts 10/22 magazines; http://www.magnumresearch.com/Expand.asp?ProductCode=MLP22BN

Well he would be able to put a 25 or 50 rd mag in if he wanted 'cause it's rimfire. You seem to be making the equivalent of the Explorer? pistol which is the Ar7 in pistol form right?

No he wouldn't, handguns of ANY caliber are restricted to 10 rounds. Only rimfire rifles can have normal magazines..:( ....otherwise the idea would have some merit....:D
