Is This Moose A Calf Or A Yearling - UPDATE

Do you think it's a calf or a yearling? The photos aren't the best as they were taken from some distance away. My dilemma when I spotted this animal was that I couldn't decide if it was a calf or yearling. It's difficult to judge without a nearby cow to compare it to. A calf I could shoot but a yearling wasn't an option. Anyway being unsure I passed on the shot and took a couple of photos instead. I subsequently sent the photos to a C.O. I know and he had a MNR biologist look at them. The biologist did positively identify it as a YEARLING . Being unsure whether it was a calf or yearling I know I made the right decision not to shoot but if I had would I have killed a calf or a yearling. I will identify it later if this thread gets traction. Calf or yearling? YEARLING.

I would call that a young cow.

I'm going to guess a yearling.
Body looks to be filled out a bit more than a calf and doesn't have a short slender face like a calf although it's not as long as an older cow.

Yearling, calves have shorter noses and don't yet have the light brown/grey around their ears and snout

Colt...ok, I know nothing about horses or hunting but what ever it is I'm sure somebody could whip it into shape for the chuck wagon races in time for the Stampede next year.

...and it's not uncommon for a few smaller cows to follow around a much larger cow. Don't ask me how I know.

I had a similar experience last fall. Young solo moose in the woods alone is hard for me to judge. I'm going to say not a calf

Its a Cow, Face is long and the beard is too big for a calf.
