I would not shoot it.

I've shot a few calfs and its really easy to tell when they are next to the cow. I've also seen cows with yearlings and they can be hard to tell apart.

Last year in my zone a hunter shot a yearling that was with a cow and ended up having a long talk with the CO. (he called it in himself, told the CO the 'I think I screw up can you come out') He was lucky and just lost his tag.

You should get out of the habit of using the term "yearling". Legally it doesnt exist. Its a cow or a calf.
