Is this normal? Did i get ripped off?

Yup, that’s normal. Make sure the firing pin rattles in the bolt before you use her, chances are it’s free floating and if it sticks you’ll have a slam fire, no fun at all. Learn to dismantle her, clean her up good and I’ll guarantee you will come home from the range with a grin from ear to ear. Good luck.

My dudes... I've been a machinist for a decade. There is a HUGE difference between knowing if a hole belongs on a new object, and how to create one. How many of you knew that it was there before either a) google imaging it right now or b)owning one?

If not already having a career in YouTube you should really consider it because that is the most clickbaity title I've ever seen on CGN. Lol
I welded mine shut so the gases wouldnt damage my custom stock, then i relocated them further towards the muzzle and at the 9 and 3 o clock position. Also drilled them slightly bigger. My theory is that this would not only help to reduce the cycle force of the SKS, but also direct the vented gases in a way that they compensate for muzzle jump. In the end, i didnt observe much of a difference in performance.
Any experiments with moving the holes on top so venting gases push the barrel down??
I've also been without license until Feb this year - meaning i didn't bother truly learning or buying guns until i legally could....
Anyways, it somehow still shoots with holes in it.

If you think this was bad, try creating a thread about how crappy Canada Post has been.
There are people on here that will literally burn your house down because you're unhappy with your Canada Post service.
Or if you have a legitimate grievance with a retailer and have gone above and beyond trying to contact them so you finally decide to make a thread here to get their attention, only to get sh*t on by the legions.
OP - If you enlarge the holes you can save a lot of effort when cleaning up cases. It will reduce the distance the empties fly. There are threads about this telling the size. And cutting 'back' the ejection port will throw them to 3-o'clock instead of 1-2 o'clock. Look in the Stickies in Red Rifles - 'Helpful hints for DIY' for lots of info on this. The first Post has info as do other posts. My last SKS dropped the cases about 6 feet to my 3-o'clock. And my range has one of those magnets on wheels to p/u steel cases. (Princess for about $25)
And for the 5-round strippers, I just wrap the "extra 5" with colored electric tape - gotta believe someday we ca shoot 10 again.
