Is this normal for a new gun

I am not sure if this is normal on a shot gun, as this is my first new shottie purchase.

Had a vendor order in a A400 xcel. For some reason it took the supplier a long time to deliver, and the price was really good on it vs what I have seen at other stores.

I picked it up, the owner brought it out to show it to me, in its case, wrapped in plastic and paper.
I took it home and put it together and checked it all out.
There are 3 chokes included, but the one in the gun was an extended choke, and the other two were regular length chokes. Then I noticed the choke was loose in the barrel, so I took it out to check which it was because there was no marking on the end, like the other two. Upon unscrewing it, I noticed it was dirty, then I looked down the barrel, dirty too.

I've heard guns are test fired, in my experience I haven't seen a choke get that dirty from a shot or two with my last shotgun. And the choke was installed without any lube/compound too keep it from siezing in there.
Are these normal findings on new guns?

And I'm not for one second blaming the store, they are amazing and the service is great. I just don't want to bother them if this is normal.

I would ask the shop about the tubes? Is it normal to have one extended and two flush tubes with the gun from the factory? I don't think it is...

All my bought new shotguns have been pretty clean when I unboxed then iirc, but then again I’ve always done a full strip, clean and oil to remove the factory lube before I fire a single shot. No chokes were ever lubed from the factory, maybe a bit of packing oil in the threads but no grease or anti seize.

I guess one needs to be a bit more attentive when the opportunity arises.
Such as when they brought it out for you to inspect.
The merchant should also have witnessed the mismatched choke tubes
if in fact they are as such.

I had a 682 with a browning buckmark on the trigger guard. Strange stuff happens some oddities you hear about I wish guys would sell like a 10/22 with no hole in the barrel.

Never buy a pig in a poke.

(That's what you did.)

I bought three brand new 870 Police in the last couple of years.

- The barrels on all three were not polished
- All three had been shot, and the barrels showed heavy lead deposits
- The sights on all three were right on target at 50 yards

So, I believe Remington test fires those at the factory with slugs and they might even sight them in.
But they don't clean them afterwards .....

My quick search through YouTube revealed that this gun comes with three extended chokes in: IC, M, IM. I wouldn’t fret about the dirty barrel or loose choke because, at this point, it’s of no consequence. If you determine that the chokes you got are different from what your own research indicates it should be, give the seller a shake (metaphorically). Otherwise, if you’re like me, you might prefer the flush-mounted chokes (I presume that’s what you mean by “normal”.) Bottom line: after spending that kind of money, you should be happy with it.

Nice gun.

If the place gives you great service call then and ask about it. Its getting harder to find quality service.
I emailed and called a site sponsor about a new shotgun and was planning on buying it and 2 higher end scopes and never got a response. The girl who answered the phone couldnt be bothered to check if the gun came with a factory case or not. Needless to say ill spend $4500 elsewhere.
I just bought a a400 xplor and it came with 3 flush mount chokes

Call the dealer and ask, or take the gun back and ask..checking if the person you dealt with will actually be there. There is no harm in asking, I've yet to meet a dealer who won't be willing to answer a fair question, respectfully asked. Actually, I have (just recently) but that's another thread. lol

Like someone else said, a dirty bore from test firing or a choke tube that only has a little factory oil on it and is loose~kind of the norm on the very small number of shotguns I've bought new (exactly 3 :) ) No red flags there, but in concert with the different choke tube in the gun vs. the others? I'd say worth a call/visit.
