is this normal for slugs?

Hi, I'm a total newbie so I thought I'd check with you guys before loading these up. These are fresh out of a box of Winchester 2 3/4" hollow point rifled slugs... notice how none of the slugs are "centered", and that the shells look like they have "ribs" when looking from the side, due to the mis-aligned slugs.

Should I take them back to the store for an exchange?

Sorry for the lousy pics, didn't have my regular camera handy.

The thing is that ammo is usually non-refundable, but I mean c'mon, these are dangerous, right?! I should've checked them before leaving the store I suppose... have bought a few boxes of these already and never seen this before.

Call Winchester, if the store will not take it back, they will sort it out.

Thanks for the info! I'll try the store first and hope that they'll be reasonable with it...

How do you guys suppose that this happened? Is this very common with slugs (that they are misaligned)?

I think what would've happened if I had used them, was that the first slug would probably get lodged in the barrel because it would be coming out of the shell sideways, then the second slug would cause the barrel to explode right in my hand.... or... is this not enough for the slug to be lodged? I don't know... and don't want to find out.

SCARY!!!

Yikes ! Are they the standard 1oz 1600 fps ones or the 1 oz 1700 fps power points ?

I shoot tons of the power points so I'm hoping it's just the standard ones with the bad QC !

These are the 1600 fps standard ones. Like i said, I've bought a few boxes of these already and never had any issues, that's why I didn't bother checking this particular box when I got it today... :( who knew!

The look like they have been compressed or slightly crushed. Take them back.

now that you've mentioned it... yes, the top portion of the slugs have lead chucks missing, looking like something heavy had pushed them farther into the shell than they should've been... makes sense now - they were probably crushed / damaged during transport...

Contact Winchester with the lot number. It will be impressed, not printed, impressed on the upper flap of the box(The part that opens with the load info, printed on top of it). "Lot No." will be printed on the left hand side of the flap. Directly to the right of the "Lot No." the number will be impressed in the box. You may need some graphite shavings to make it out depending on your current eyesight level.

A while ago a friend gave me a box of Rem sluggers in 16 ga with one of the slugs that was put in backwards inside the shell...so always check what you buy, cause most place wont take back ammo...

I doubt that they would be dangerous to shoot, but I certainly wouldn't expect them to shoot very well. Winchester's standard foster slug has proven the most accurate slug I've used, often producing palm sized groups at 100.
