I have run about 50 rounds through my new Hornady LNL press. Since the primer system broke after only 2 rounds I have been loading one shell at a time. I notice when the completed cartridge is leaving the last crimp die the press will act like it binding ever so slightly and will make a slight "thud" type noise. The crimp looks perfect. I just want to know if this is normal, if it is not what should I be doing differently.

I am loading .45ACP using a 4 piece LEE die set. The last crimp die is a dedicated crimp die.

Any useful feed back would be appreciated.

Also before anyone says call Hornady about the broken primer system, this is already done. Free parts are on the way.

You dont need much crimp, you can try just using the seating die to seat and crimp.

This works for me when i use 230gr jacket RN and similar factory ammo.

1. Backout the seating die 2 full turns.

2. Backout the seating stem

3. put a factory round and start to turn seating die down till you feel resistance and stop. This sets a crimp silimar to factory crimp.

4. trun seating stem down till it touches top of bullet. You should have seating deapth and crimp set.

5. Try your reloads now, you dont need much of a crimp.

6. Take barrel out of pistol and check reloaded round.
