Is this normal? S&W 629 4.2"

I should also add, each cylinder has debris inside and it is tactile... the more I think of it the more I am starting to think it was well used by someone at EPPS and probably "Cowboy'd" (swinging the cylinder shut, just like in the movies) which would explain the bent ejector.

This was it for me. I too am now done with Epps.

I am now in contact with WORTNER GUN WORKS in ON.
I was told that this is the S&W Warranty Center for Canada.

Is this legit?
Does anyone have any Wortner Gun Works experience??

I purchased my gun from P&D Enterprises. I got it sent to me a few days after it arrived to them. So nobody was playing with it, unless it was at the Factory or North Sylva. They had lots of guns to play with, they still have them in stock. I believe this is more a result of poor QC with Smith & Wessen then anything else. The gun locks up tight and functions fine. I bought this thing to shoot it, I got 1500 rounds of 44 mag just waiting. As long as it has no issues with firing then its a keeper to me. Im not worried at all about sending it back.

Your pictures look bad, but they are magnified with what ever type of camera your using. I truly didnt notice mine at all tell i looked, same with the wobble. To me its more aesthetics then anything else. If it was a function problem then, id be on the phone with P&D right now.

Instead of putting yourself through all sorts of pains sending it to Smith, take it out and shoot it. If it works fine, then just enjoy it. I know mine is not going to look new for long once the cold weather lets up and i can get to the range.

Thanks.

I should probably stop posting now as I can feel I am getting "worked-up"
The galling is very noticeable though, I noticed it as soon as I opened the box.

Good point (on mentioning that it is very unlikely someone at P&D had time to handle it) as they were in, then out.

I definitely should not assume/accuse someone at EPPS of shooting it. Since I have absolutely no proof at all.
But, my spidey-senses are telling me it was definitely not just "test-fired." Where is the question.

I'm currently awaiting three replies:
-S&W USA
-Wortner
-Murray Charlton Enterprises Ltd

I definitely want to shoot it, but then I don't want to be accused of having used it.
I will update in a couple days.

Thanks again for those that have chimed in.
Cheers~

Ive had another gun a 629 with 5 inch barrel, come from P&D and it was dirty. Looked like it was fired a lot. I contacted P&D and they told me that they sometimes come from Smith that way. I cleaned it and shot it, and never had an issue. This I would blame more on Smith as a QC issue then on EPPS. As my gun looks just like yours.

epps is famous for t his sort of thing,( oh sorry you have to send it to so and so)..... no thanks, i just wont buy anything from you ever again.

Not normal to have that cylinder marking either.

Got the same song and dance from questar over a "new" g19 i bought a while back. Was filthy, no never seize on the frame, i said, whats up? Oh thats from test firing...

I pressed more, and they finally admitted they fired 50 rounds from it to " test" function.....well sorry it is no longer a new gun. I DOnt shop there anymore either.

Yep, I have had similar experiences with them and will not shop there again. Their return/exchange policy sucks as does their attitude toward it. Did you let Glock know what they did? Bet they would be real interested...

I have heard bad stories about EPPS, but in this case my gun looks the same and it came from P&D so not sure if it was EPPS in this case.

Yes Wortners is legit talk to George hes the owner i sure he will take care of it for you its a busy place thay always fix S&W Phuck ups no problem there.

Rick

And to add more about the Epps thing with the gun i dont think they were slamming it close like in the movies it would really phuck up that yoke (crane) what ever you guys want to call them . Looks like bad machining to me poor Quality Control on S&W Part if it was peening while they were test firing it then it should have been spotted then. They will probly replace the cylinder with a new one and if the ejecter rod is bent they will replace that too there a lifetime warranty on these S&W guns so dont worry i know its a pain in the ass . Sometimes its way better to buy in person then off the internet so many people getting the short end of the stick..lately ..

Rick

Or Mabey someone was spinning the cylinder like in the movie 13 cause if you did that then release pressure off the trigger that would really phuck it up too thats a possibility too but i hope not thats my guess..

Neither the bent ejector rod or the peening of the cylinder are normal and shouldn't be acceptable to any of you. Even if you bought it just as a "shooter".

I picked up mine from P & D. As usual, they gave me great service, in fact, far better than most retailers!
Anyways, I opened up the box and mine was dirty as well. P & D explained that S & W test fire most of the new
revolvers. I was fine with that, went home and cleaned her all up and it looks great. I don't see any of those marks
on my cylinder.

Email'd Epps with pictures. I was told that it was from "test firing" at the factory and then was offered a measely $35. No refunds. No Exchanges.

My only option: Send the revolver to S&W under Warranty. It is they who will decide wether the revolver gets fixed/replaced or not.

My plan is to now send the revolver to S&W. I expect I am now going to be without the revolver for several months.
Depressing.

So there you have it my friends.

Moral of the story: Ask for pictures before you buy because there is no returning once you buy, only warranty-repair/replacement from the manufacturer.

Worst Luck Ever.

Sorry for your pain, this is just wrong, I thought Epps was one of the good ones.

Epps still has an ethical responsibility to ship you a product in working condition, they don't get to ship you something broken and then walk away from you. Particularly as per their own policy you don't have any chance to inspect it. According to the Epps website "We do not take photos of new firearms. These pictures can be found on the manufacturer's website."

also check for canted barrel I seen two that were canted to the left when you look down the sites the front site is leaning to the left and is very noticable if you are buying one sight unseen get them to check it before they send it

My question to you and is this. Have you played with your new toy yet? Have you dry fired it both single and double action to check function? Have you done it alot? If no, try doing that and see if those peens appear on your cylinder. As i have dry fired mine lots, testing the function and weight of the trigger.

I think ellwoodepps can take this stance because it's technically 'not' broken.

My argument is that it looks terrible and not-new, but they come back with "test fired" and "bent ejector doesn't affect function."

At the end of the day it ultimately boils down to terrible customer service/support.

But, they have a business to run.

If it were me, I'd have inspected the shipment and not sent this out to a customer. Deal with it properly and not at this stage.

looks to me like someone was spinning the cylinder all cowboy style. not an expert, but would be my guess.

They have a business to run and we have money to spend...think I'll spend mine elsewhere. Hope it all works out for you in the end.

+1 on that mdragon9

Little update:
I just received a reply from Murray Charlton Enterprises Ltd.

They saw the pics/video, they instructed me to send it in for warranty work. :)

Wow, what a ride.
Anyway, I'll obviously keep watching here.

I promise to update the saga with some after pics and hopefully a happy ending in the not too distant future.

Thanks G37,

I am disappointed to hear the response you got from Epps as well. I have dealt with them quite a bit in the past and had good experiences, but clearly that is not the case here!

Please do keep us posted on your experience with Murray Charlton and I sure hope you get satisfaction.

Best wishes, Jeff.
