Is this overkill.........

I am guilty of it myself. My grandfather came with me to the range the otherday when i was grouping some loads for my new 300 WM. He said he has not put that many shot down the pipe of his 30-06 in 20 years. My reply was i like shooting. I am not going to leave a 3800 dollar rig in the safe to shoot 5 times a year. Be it at gophers, rabits, coyotes, deer, moose, elk, paper, water jugs, steel gongs, or paint cans shoot it if you got it.

i would say your under gunned. switch to a 375 or 416. sounds like good hunting practice to me. you can never have to much gun only not enough. what if one of those rabbits charged. hope you have back up.

Not much meat gonna be left on them wabbits unless you take head shots only ...

I hate the idea of wasting perfectly good meat, but that's just me.

varmint rabbits...no prob, not sure what your bag limits/seasons are though. If you gonna eat them, it seems like it would be too much gun.

I was thinking the same thing. I have a thing about saving good meat. Groundhogs ( I am toying with the idea of eating one ) Gophers, Crows....blast away with all you want but to waste good rabbit....kinda wasting IMHO
