Don't tease me Lord, PLEASE make it so. You know I don't ask for much.

Are you reloading that .458wm? I can't find any .458 ammo in town.(Vancouver)
bunny;3442068[B said:].458 factory ammo is not cheap[/B]!! I reload for mine, allows for alot of options in velocity and bullet weights.
I'll leave the cast bullets for the 45-70. For jacketed, the Hornady 500gr coupled with IMR 4064 seems to do the trickTrue enough, and at times even the brass 'can' be a little on the scarce side. My last batch of brass was brought back from state side by a buddy.
I'm still working on a couple of cast bullet loads although I thinkI'll leave the cast bullets for the 45-70. For jacketed, the Hornady 500gr coupled with IMR 4064 seems to do the trick
.
I use IMR 4198 for all my 458 and 45/70 loading with exellent results.
I agree on results using IMR 4198 in loads for my Marlin 1895GS 45-70. I've found it to be one of the better powders for the 'warmer' loads.
In my 458WM for jacketed bullets I pretty well stick with the 500 grainers. A quick check in the Hornady manual, with that weight of bullet, I don't see a listing for IMR 4198 so I had assumed it may be a little too fast burning in that combo.
I shoot alot of .458WM. and I load for my five 45/70's, I use 4198 for everything at every possible velocity. For the .458WM. 63 grains will do about 2300 fps. with the 350RN,70 grains for about 2500 fps. for the 500 grain 65 grains will do about 2100 fps 60 grains around 1950 fps, I have found IMR 4198 is accurate with all loads.
Thanks. I appreciate the feed back and info. I may have to give it a try. Thanks again.![]()
Well worth a try, by the way these loads came out of an older Hornady manual [ I think it was the 4th edition ]
