Is this trade possible? Or am I out to lunch?

I have a Smith and Wesson stealth hunter performance center 44mag. I took it on trade and shot about 20 rounds out of it. The guy I got it from might have fired a couple rounds. There wasn't a single mark on the cylinder at all.

I like the gun, but I think I'd rather a standard model 629 and a 1911 in my collection instead.

So that being said, would I be able to trade my smith and wesson stealth hunter for a used 629 and a used 1911? I know there's some dirt cheap crappy 1911's out there, but I want to avoid norinco and beaters.

Am I out to lunch or would this be a reasonable trade?

I say you’ll need to add a few bucks to sweeten the offer.
If you don’t want a Norc or a lower end DA or SAM, then you’re looking at about $1000 for a nice quality used 1911. About the same for a 629 in good to excellent condition.
My guess is your gun plus $300-400.

thats fair and reasonable, thank you

I agree you will likely have to add at least few hundred, or compromise on the 1911. Next step up from the Norcs and Sams would be used a Ruger SR or Remington (700-800), then maybe Kimber and mil spec Springfield (800-900+)

i like the look of remmington R1's, but I am a left so I'd like the safety on both sides.

I'm not too pick though. I don't need a high end 1911. I don't shoot a lot

There are also some dirt cheap good 1911s out there, but they are those Norincos you want to avoid.

I would pick a .357 esp if you don’t shoot a lot. That’ll drop your revolver cost to around $700-$800 for a 686 or Ruger. Then put the rest into a nice 1911. There’s just something about a true quality 1911 that makes owning one a thing of pride.

I don't have interest in 357. I know they are cheaper, but I like big bores. And for how much I shoot, the cost of shooting isn't factor.

Only problem is finding someone with a Mod 29 & 1911 that wants to trade .
That's the rub. I'd be tempted just to sell the PC S&W outright and use the proceeds from the sale to pick up new guns. In my EE experience, it's very rare that someone has the exact guns that you're looking to trade for.

This is what I was going to say as well. You have picked out two fine pistols, good luck in your search.
