On the quest for a .270, ran in to a weatherby today in Laminate with a stainless barrel, without doubt one of the nicest looking rifles I have seen.
Are they known to be a good rifle?
The one I was holding was a Vanguard, the stock looked like it had a layer of glass on it, deep rich laminate with a stunning luster.
Now this rifle was priced at about $1100, seems steep for an entry level rifle.
The owner of the shop, who has always been pretty forward with me said it only comes from Weatherby's custom shop, what ever that is.
Could be from the custom shop, I've never seen a laminate Vanguard.
That puts the rifle in the same price range as a Sako, the Weatherby is that good?
I really liked the stock, it was unique. I guess no matter the outcome it has opened my eyes to a different firearm company.
I doubt you could get a new Sako...well other than the A7 for $1100 but I definitely wouldn't put the Vanguard in the same league as a Sako 85. There must have been some custom work done on that Vanguard because you can pick a regular one up for around $600 most places.
