Is your FX9 Reliable?

I didn't like the factory buffer spring. Mine was black and felt soft so I swapped in a new standard carbine spring. Then decided to try the Enidine hydraulic buffer, went out back and ran ten rounds through it. Perfect function and lock back with a KCI 10/17.
Ten rounds isn't much of a test but so far I'm happy, next time I play with it I'll try my Spikes ST-2 buffer as well.
I also decided to swap out the stock trigger guard for a Magpul one. Fit well but had to take off a little material where it hung out into the magwell. Was easy to do and looks better.

I've used up all my storage for my current membership or I'd post some pics.
I'm trying to figure out how to delete some of my old ones. Be patient, lol.

Fixed it, pics in the owners thread.
Hopefully we get a sticky soon:rockOn:

Just got back from the range, 110 rounds fired - 0 malfunctions. 50 S&B 124, 50 PMC 124 and 10 reloads 124. I believe this is the longest stretch the rifle has gone without a malfunction.

Total round count 1533 plus the 50 or so Wolverine fired.

my first fx9 was rock solid few thousand rounds down the tube I dont recall any issues other than the fact that it didn't like to do the whole last round bolt hold open thing on oem Glock mags. I regretted selling this rifle for the god awful ws mcr sold the mcr got a new fx9 hopefully this new one is as reliable as the last. I hope to shoot it soon enough.

How many rounds did you put through yours so far?

It was my buddies gun, initially a lot of buyers remorse, ran terrible with sgm mags and crappy Winchester ammo, switched to Magpul extended and seller and ballot (slightly hotter rounds) and doesn’t seem to have problems anymore.(300 rounds flawless)

At this point I would consider picking one up just use hotter ammo and longer springed mags.
I heard stronger buffer can also be helpful.

Ran my FX-9 yesterday in PCC division at a local IDPA match.
Pretty much flawless function.
I have had issues with all kinds of mags and the bolt hold open feature, but yesterday the Magpul magazines worked fine.
When topping up to 11 rounds, you really have to make sure the mag is well seated, otherwise it will not pick up the first round from the mag after firing the one in the chamber.

I own a 4" and an 8" FX-9. Both very fun. I replaced the stock buffer and stock on both, but kept the original spring. I did find that both preferred RN rather than either HP or FN. Runs great with Magpul mags. Overall fun and easy to use.

I just bought mine recently and the first range outing had no issues with last round bolt hold open. Second time (yesterday) when I went, it consistently exhibited what you described to a T. Bolt hold open did not work at all on the Glock 17 G5 OEM mags. Worked fine on all my PMAGs (10/10 and 10/17).

Also the bolt latch / bolt lock catch kept releasing / disengaging in inadvertent times - sometimes when releasing the mag, the bolt catch would release. Sometimes when I put the gun on its right side gently, the bolt catch released. Sometimes just out of the blue while holding the gun and aiming, it just released. No rhyme nor reason. Only thing annoying about this happening is that full mags won't seat on a closed bolt.

I did clean the gun today and in pushing the bolt release back and forth while I had the upper off, it did seem slightly gritty when moving it...so not sure if some foul up occurred on the hinge, but I don't know enough to figure out how to take the bolt catch apart. I don't know whether overlubing the lower originally contributed to this. The first range outing I didn't have this issue as I was able to engage the bolt catch manually every time and it never went off by itself.

Other than that, it shot very well with the 147gr Federal Syntechs I used.

Took mine apart at 1423 rounds (33 fte/stovepipe) and found this.

As well, the roll pin in the buffer was walking out.

As well as this,

This is the bottom of the bolt, you can see the spring where the metal has worn away. They told me this was fairly normal and wouldn't have any effect on function. It doesn't seem to be causing issues.

Because of the damaged buffer and the fte's I've been getting, I sent it to Wolverine for warranty work. They replaced the buffer and I believe they filed the bottom edge of the extractor to help with extraction. The impression I got from them is the extraction issues are fairly common but the fix is easy. They test fired 50x with no issue. I will take it out in a day or two and see if I notice any improvement.

On a side note, Wolverine was great to deal with and was quick to respond to any of my inquiries.

Is that the factory buffer? It looks kind of long.

I can't say I've experienced this issue with the new rifle but I can confirm the new one still doesn't like stock Glock mags. but +1 for flawless operation thus far
