The white lettering tend to be just unit/ID markings...the main concern with Ishapore FN 1A1 rifles are the painted stripe thats on the butt, this reflects condition of the rifle as per their (Indian) armoury.
Red = Drill, ceremonial use only/do not live fire
Yellow = Drill use, but may be deployed and fired
Green = good to go, operational
No stripe = also good ( but be mindful of refinished stocks)
Before shooting any Ishy FN you should have it thoroughly checked out by someone who is familiar with that system. That being said I did buy two red/stripe 1A1’s years back (cause they were cheap LOL) and had a decent rifle build out of them, the other became a wall hanger Dewat
They are good rifles...
