ISO. Hunting & target scope

What exactly are you looking for? Saying you want a scope for $1200 is like asking the question "What gun should I buy for deer?"

We need to know a little bit more about the uses of your scope.

What is the platform for the scope? (Examples: Rifle (Bolt or Semi-Auto)
What cartridge are you shooting? (Examples: 22LR, 223, 308, 338 Lapua, etc.)
What is your intended use for the scope? (Examples: PRS, Benchrest, Hunting, Target, Steel, etc. or any combination thereof)
What type of conditions will you typically shoot in? (Examples: Daylight, Lowlight, Nighttime, etc. or any combination thereof)
What are the typical distances you intend to shoot? (Examples: 1000+ yds, 600-1,000 yds, 300-600 yds, 100-300 yds, under 100 yds)
Are there any specific specifications you would like? (Examples: FFP/SFP, 30mm tube, 50mm objective, focus below 50 yds, low turrets, mil or moa, weight, etc.)

Like others noted, need more details. I like to 'match' optics to the rifle in question.

For example, a lever marlin just looks right with a Leupold 1.5-5x20 on it if you need a scope like I do because of aging eyes... If you put a big bell objective on the lever, it looks wrong IMHO and may not mount low enough that you have a good cheek weld.

In comparison, if you had a Ruger American in 22-250 for coyotes, a Bushnell Legend in 4.5-14x44 might be a better choice. Not just for the higher magnification, but it's a mid range quality optic on a entry level mass produced rifle.

Not slagging the American, just outlining how one might go about choosing the appropriate optic for the application/firearm in question.

Cheers
Jay
