Israeli 1911's @ Marstar

I see they also have a CZSP-01 looking type of BUL too. I think they look like a decent gun, have to get some range reports on them.

Wow, some of em are pretty pricey for a Marstar gun. $1799

I guess the cz75 copies are a little bit pricier... I would prefer spend some $$ on the real stuff.

for a more tactical type of shooting, would you guys take the .40 or the .45?

I'd go with a .40 mainly because of the cheaper ammo and relatively less expensive reloading components.

Looking to get into IPSC...does that .40 for $699 look like a good start?

For the person asking if they would carry other models:

I think it would make an excellent place to start. For the cost of the gun and extra mags, it's a very good value.

The only thing the base model seems to lack are adjustable sights, but frankly once you have fixed sights set up for you and your load of choice, who cares?

Ok I will give a mini review of the Bul M5.

The Bul M5 is a double stack polymer framed 1911. IIRC it has an 18 round capacity for those living in places where you can. Mags are stainless steel and the ones I tried were in fact Sti mags.

It shoots very nice and is very accurate. The trigger is nice even though it is polymer, and it was quite controllable to shoot despite not having a full length dust cover.

Ergonomically it felt great in my hands and was pleasant to shoot. Mag release is standard, and you can get different mag wells for it. Also I had no technical issues when I fired it.

So overall I would say that it is a fantastic buy for $699. In terms of fit and finish I would say that they are in the Para Ordnance league, although the STI/SVI series are probably of a better quality. However most shooters will not notice enough of a difference to justify jumping to one of the other 1911's, and there are many competitive IPSC shooters who use them.

Also, I have also handled an M5 with a black polymer frame and a stainless slide. It is one of the ###iest looking 1911's I have ever seen! :D

NOTE: I have only test fired the expensive IPSC model, but I would not anticipate an enormous drop in quality when talking about the standard series.

Bul makes the polymer frames that Kimber uses indeed ! !!

BUL has not made the polymer frames fro Kimber for over three years now...

Kimber found (at that time) the QC of BUL too low and spent the money to set up their own manufacturing ability.

CRAFM is waiting for 2 pistols........I'll judge them when I see them.....

And.... they have arrived and they are quite nice, especially for those starting in IPSC. I tried the compensated .45 and it shoots beautifully. I would say recoil is about the same as a 9mm.
