I seem to have once again arrived belatedly at the altar of Paul Mauser.
My recent interest just very well might lead m to purchasing one of these fine rifles in 7.62 NATO in the future.

Wondering if the layman such as myself, should know anything not readily apparent to the average onlooker??

curious here......

The Israeli K98s are very good as mentioned but the South American offerings such as the 1912 Steyrs in 7.62 Nato or the Brazilian 98 conversions can be spectacular shooters. I have all three and even though I like my Israeli, the Steyr is the best of the lot. Most reasonably priced as well. Jean Plamondon has or had some very nice pieces last year. What he has now is another story.

The one I owned was an excellent shooter. Hit very close to point of aim and was very accurate. It fed and ejected perfectly. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if you're interested Brutus. They are a lot of fun and neat pieces of history.

Folks I would like also your input on your sights. Did you Mauser shoot very high at 100 yards/meters?

And any of the rifles that were converted to 7.62, do they repeat reliably from a full magazine?

Israeli reworks have a spacer block in the magazine for the shorter round, they feed perfectly. Other differences are the short band spring and pinned on sight hood.
The sights are standard 98k sights, it will shoot a bit high at 100, close at 200 and bang on at 300. Who shoots at 100 anyway:p

Geez J996 that's a very nice looking Israeli K98, did you refinish it? Have more pictures?

I've had two Israeli's and one Brazilian over the years . They all shot and functioned perfectly . Now I think about it , I don't know why I sold them....... oh yeah , I'm a gun whore lol . I will be getting another in the near future , they're great rifles .

It was a bubba that I sourced parts for, had reparkerized and put into a NOS Israeli stock set that I got from the states a long time ago. I no longer have it (sold to a lucky cgn'er). Here's a pic of it next to a Yugo 8mm.

I bring up the subject of high shooting rifle because I just picked up a 7.92mm carbine that presently prints very high @100 meters with my own first handloads in this calibre.
This is not so bad because I can order a higher front sight from Brownell's to address this very issue and fiddle with the powder charge and bullet weight too.

Just wanted to know of any pressing Israeli issues before any commitment to purchase.

thank you

Once upon a time I had 1000 rds of 8mm ball with the "Star of David" 48 stamp mixed with a couple hundred battle field pickup Arabic marked ammo.Being a 20 some year old dough head I shot it all off at targets............Harold

I understand that Israel also acquired some Gewehr98 rifles alongside the Czech and FN made K98s.

I wonder if they modified the rear sight, because IIRC the Gew98 rifles had a lowest sight setting of 400 meters?

Anything the Israeli's converted to 7.62 will be in K98k configuration and will have a K98k rear sight.

They used all sorts of receivers in the builds but the end result is a K98k.
